Naperville North repeats in DVC

Jen Law wasn’t too impressed.

The Naperville North senior helped her team repeat as DuPage Valley Conference girls swimming champion, winning four races in the process. Still, it didn’t stir a celebration, at least about her personal performance.

“I’m doing OK,” Law said. I’m not going to complain. I’m not ecstatic about it, no.”

Law had to be feeling better after helping the Huskies win the 400-yard freestyle relay, the meet’s final event, and holding off Naperville Central in the team standings. The Huskies won 304.5-296.

“It’s a different atmosphere than the past couple of weeks because it’s DVC, and we want to defend our title,” Law said.

Wheaton co-op scored 190.5 points to place third. Glenbard North/East was fourth 187.5, with West Chicago next at 156 and West Aurora sixth at 104.5.

“I just wanted to get out and win for our team,” Law said of her victory in the 100 butterfly in 58.84. “Time-wise, it wasn’t too bad. It wasn’t exactly where I wanted to be at this meet, but I can’t complain.”

With two weeks before the sectional and three weeks to the state meet, Law has time to improve.

“I know what I need to do from here on out,” she said. “I just need my underwaters to be improved from the start. I could take it out faster, for sure. At the end it’s going to hurt, so I might as well take it out as fast as I can.”

Meanwhile, Emily Sejna won the 100 freestyle for Naperville Central.

“I just had a positive mentality going into it,” Sejna said. “It was my first event, so it’s been a really long meet. I just prepared myself mentally, telling myself I know I can do it. I wanted to break 55, which was my personal best this season so far, and 54.32, I’ll take that. It’s only four-tenths off the state cut (53.99), so I’m really happy about that.”
