Are you ready for some football?

The arduous task of facing double practice sessions was made easier for Fox Valley high school football players and coaches Wednesday, thanks to optimal weather conditions on the first day of football practice.

The 13 high school programs in the Fox Valley took to the field under mostly sunny skies on a 75-degree day, a true relief compared to the oppressing heat in which most teams slogged through their July summer camps.

“I like it. I don’t want to suffer anymore than the kids do,” new Burlington Central coach Rich Crabel said after a five-hour morning practice. “Some guys have the philosophy that you have to be mentally tough when it’s hot and dah-duh-dah-duh-dah. It’s more important to me that we get our work done regardless of what the weather is.”

Teams have just more than two weeks to polish their skills before the season opens Aug. 26.
