COD offers new fashion apparel production courses this fall
The Fashion Merchandising and Design program at College of DuPage will offer a series of new fashion apparel production courses this fall.
The following courses are offered at the Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.
Fashion 2245 Design Collection Development – meets 6 to 9:50 p.m. Tuesdays for 12 weeks, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 13.
In this hybrid course led by Chicago designer Orlando Espinosa, students learn to develop marketable apparel, accessory or home fashion collections using professional trend projections, fabric and notion sourcing, sizing, grading and quality control. Prerequisite: Fashion 2202. (3 credit hours)
Fashion 2430 Apparel Production Management – meets 6 to 9:50 p.m. Thursdays for 12 weeks, beginning Thursday, Sept. 15.
Students in this hybrid course learn how to create a technical design package to prepare products for production. Taught by veteran technical designer Ellen Hetlund. Prerequisite: Fashion 1102. (3 credit hours)
Fashion 1165 Clothing Construction for the Apparel Industry – meets 9 a.m. to
2:50 p.m. for 16 weeks, beginning Monday, Aug. 22.
Taught by Anna Vidovic of the Association of Sewing and Design Professionals, students learn to create detail elements such as cuffs, collars, closures and more with different sewing techniques. This course can be substituted for Fashion 1156 for Fashion Design majors. (3 credit hours)
Fashion 1180 Fashion Business Practices for the Fashion Entrepreneur – meets 6 to 9:50 p.m. for 12 weeks, beginning Monday, Sept. 19.
Taught by Luanne Mayorga, Illinois International Trade Center manager and Custom Bridal Wear designer, students learn fundamental decision making for individuals in the business of sewing, arts or crafts, including acquisition of equipment and supplies, legalities, taxes, zoning, insurance, and establishing price structures. (3 credit hours)
Additional courses in Fashion Law and Marketing will be offered in spring 2012.
