Advocate Condell offers health/support programs this summer

The following health and support programs are being offered in August and September by Advocate Condell Medical Center.

Cancer Care

"Look Good, Feel Better": Women learn positive ways to enhance their appearance and boost their self-esteem during cancer treatment. Facilitators will help patients with hair and makeup techniques. Sponsored by Advocate Condell Medical Center and the American Cancer Society.

Breast Cancer Support Group: Offers emotional support and networking for breast cancer survivors.

Pulmonary Rehab Support Group: Offers support and education to pulmonary rehabilitation patients and their families and caregivers.

WomenHeart Support Group: Share thoughts, concerns and feelings with other women who have been touched by heart disease.

Family and Friends Infant CPR: For the non-professional caregiver, including parents, grandparents, adoptive parents and others. Class follows the American Heart Association guidelines and meets the DCFS guidelines for adoption in Illinois. Attendees will receive a participation card.

When: 1:30-4:30 pm Saturday, Aug. 13; and 7-9 pm Tuesday, Aug. 23, Tuesday, Sept. 13, and Thursday, Sept. 29

Diabetes Care

Individual Diabetes Education: Schedule a one-on-one appointment with certified diabetes nurse educator. Type 1, Type 2 or gestational diabetes education and problem-solving. Glucose meter instruction and instruction in starting insulin. Appointments are 45 minutes to 1 hour. A physician referral is required. Most insurance plans cover diabetes education. Patients should check with insurance company about coverage.

Type 2 Diabetes Self-Management Class: For those recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, or those previously diagnosed and struggling to get their blood sugar under control. The three-session class teaches the skills you need to manage your diabetes. A physician referral is required. Most insurance plans cover diabetes education. Patients should check with insurance company about coverage.

When: 6-8:30 pm on Tuesday, Aug. 9, and Tuesday, Sept. 6; and 1-3:30 pm on Thursday, Aug. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 8

Type 2 Diabetes Self-Management Refresher Class: Geared toward those who have completed the Diabetes Self-Management Classes or have attended diabetes education classes elsewhere. This class is recommended each year for ongoing diabetes self-management, education and support. A physician referral is required. Most insurance plans cover diabetes education. Women and Children

Sibling Class: For youngsters anticipating the arrival of a new baby. Intended for children 3-10 years old, this special class will ease the transition to "Big Brother" or "Big Sister." A parent must attend the class with the child. Please have child bring a doll or stuffed animal to class.

Safe Sitter: Girls and boys 11 to 13 years old learn how to handle emergencies.
