Wauconda rallies past Richmond-Burton
Wauconda scored 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to squeak out a 3-2 victory over Richmond-Burton on Monday in nonconference play.
Jake Ziolkowski smacked a home run and Jeremy Wagner and Jack Botheroyd each had doubles for the Bulldogs.
After Wagner tied the game with his double, Ziolkowski, who went 3-for-4 on the day, drove in the winning run with a single.
Stevenson 17, Grant 2 (5): Stevenson improved to 12-2 on the season by jumping out fast on Grant. The Patriots, who pounded out 15 hits on the game, were up 14-2 through two innings. Barry Saks went 3-for-3 for the game while Ricky Kern and Brandon Waters each had doubles. Pitcher Matt Allen got his first win of the season. For Grant, Jake Ring went 3-for-3 with 2 stolen bases and Jared Helmich drove in a run.
Carmel sweeps St. Patrick: In a doubleheader, Carmel picked up two wins against St. Patrick 8-3 and 17-0. In the first game, Carmel was up 5-0 through two innings and cruised to victory. Pitcher Adam Warkenthien got the win while Brian Serio (double), Jimmy Ryan (3-for-4) and Brian Brennan (2-for-3) provided offensive support. In the second game, Serio and Ryan each had 4 hits. Carmel is now 10-6 overall and 4-2 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference.
Grayslake Central 5, Cary-Grove 2: Austin Leggett fanned a season-high 10 batters in pitching Grayslake Central to a victory. He tossed a complete game 5-hitter to get his fourth win of the season.
“Austin threw a great game against the best hitting team we have seen to date,” Grayslake Central coach Troy Whalen said. “He competed with every batter and that’s what you like to see. He is our bulldog and it’s great that we were able to get him a much deserved win tonight.”
The game was tied 2-2 headed into the seventh inning but the Rams put up three runs thanks in large part to a hard-hit single to right field by Austin Miller that brought in 2 runs.
