Meline, Vernon Hills edge Antioch

Megan Meline struck out 11 and allowed just 2 hits, as Vernon Hills’ softball team edged host Antioch 1-0 in a North Suburban Prairie Division rematch Wednesday, avenging Tuesday’s loss.

Sophomore Jordyn Comitor’s home run in the top of the fourth accounted for the game’s only run.

Losing pitcher Olivia Duehr yielded only 3 hits and struck out seven. Both pitchers walked three.

Warren 8, Zion-Benton 7: Sarah Shanders’ single knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth, as the Blue Devils rallied for the North Suburban Lake win.

Warren (5-4, 1-1) received 3-for-4 efforts from Megan Sowa (2 runs scored, double) and Lexi Leneau (2 doubles, 3 RBI). Marcee Olvera homered for the Blue Devils, and Jessica Demski earned the win, pitching all eight innings.

Wauconda 16, Round Lake 1: Brittany Ehmann belted a 3-run homer for the host Bulldogs, who defeated the Panthers in five innings for the second day in a row.

Lexie Rebmann pitched 3 no-hit innings for the win, striking out four and walking two. Lauren Thomas tossed the final two innings for Wauconda (4-1, 2-0), allowing 1 hit and also striking out four.

Grayslake North 7, Woodstock North 2: Freshman Nikki Livengood homered, and senior Brianna Leon went 2-for-4 with a double for the Knights in the Fox Valley Conference game.

Winning pitcher Kristina Gandy had 12 strikeouts.

Lake Zurich 3, Mundelein 2: The host Bears scored in the bottom of the fifth to snap a 2-2 tie in the North Suburban Lake game.

Megan Mattera and Maria Schroeder (2-for-3) both doubled and knocked in a run for Lake Zurich (5-2, 2-0).

Deanna Wise was 2-for-3 with an RBI triple for Mundelein (0-2), and Hillary Bunnelle went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Stevenson 5, Libertyville 2: Alison Castriano went 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI, and Cailin Rubenstein and Allie Jobes each had 2 hits for the Patriots in the North Suburban Lake contest.

Freshman pitcher Katherine Trotter pitched all 7 innings for Stevenson (3-0, 2-0), striking out eight, walking three (all in the seventh) and scattering 8 hits.

Danielle Kaczmar was 2-for-4 for Libertyville (1-5, 0-2).
