Learn about tobacco education at free training

Do you work with Lake County youth?

Join the Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center's Tobacco Free Lake County program to "Put Tobacco Education Into Action" on Wednesday, April 6 at the Lake County Central Permit Facility, 500 W. Winchester Road, in Libertyville.

Whether you are a teacher, social worker, school nurse, scout leader or D.A.R.E. officer, this free hands-on training will assist you in learning and practicing effective tobacco prevention activities to increase your school's support for tobacco-free youth.

Participants will explore and practice activities to engage their students in the learning process. They will also go home with a copy of Tobacco game show software to bring to their classroom.

This workshop will also provide the opportunity to network, share and learn from other Lake County Educators. Participants will be pre-approved to borrow educational supplies (tar jar, pig lungs, etc.) for use in the classroom, and also receive a free teaching manual filled with reproducible handouts, activities, and resources.

The training will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Lake County Central Permit Facility in Libertyville. A light dinner will be provided and all participants will receive free classroom posters. This is a free training opportunity; however, pre-registration is required. Participants may register by calling Tobacco Free Lake County at (847) 377-8090 by Monday, April 4.

For more information about the teacher's workshop or about the programs offered by Tobacco Free Lake County, please call (847) 377-8090 or send an e-mail to TFLC@lakecountyil.gov. Funding for this program is provided by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
