Glenbard East blows out Mahomet-Seymour
Glenbard East's boys basketball team had little trouble advancing to the large school semifinals of the State Farm Holiday Classic in Bloomington, pounding Mahomet-Seymour 80-52 on Tuesday.
Johnny Hill, coming off Monday's 34-point performance, scored a game-high 27 points. Tyree York scored 13 points and Dante Bailey had 10.
Glenbard East (10-0) will play Hononegah at 6 p.m. Wednesday with a berth in the title game on the line.
Downers Grove South 77, Riverside-Brookfield 60:
Four players scored in double figures for the Mustangs (9-3), who move on to the semifinals of York's Jack Tosh Holiday Classic. Downers South plays the host Dukes at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Kevin Honn paced the Mustangs with 18 points.
Naperville North 56, Maine South 55:
The Huskies (4-6) overcame a fourth-quarter rally by top-seeded Maine South to advance in the consolation bracket of York's Jack Tosh Holiday Classic. Jon Mengel scored 14 points and Nick Buege added 12 for Naperville North, which plays Conant at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
WW South 54, Glenbard South 45:
Kevin Bridges poured in a game-high 22 points for the Tigers (5-5), who advance to play Oswego in the consolation bracket of York's Jack Tosh Holiday Classic at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Gene Baerwolf added 12 points.
Conant 52, St. Francis 49:
The Spartans (3-6) fell in the consolation bracket at York's Jack Tosh Holiday Classic despite 15 points from Ryan Coyle. St. Francis plays Maine South at noon on Wednesday.
Kenwood 45, Naperville Central 38:
After taking a 29-21 lead to the fourth quarter, the Redhawks (3-8) were struck by a 24-9 Kenwood run at the Wheeling Wildcat Hardwood Classic. David Niggins led Naperville Central with 21 points and 8 rebounds. The Redhawks play Deerfield at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Downers Grove North 46, Argo 25:
The Trojans (6-6) advanced in the large school consolation bracket at the Lemont Christmas Classic. Ten players scored for Downers North led by Rob Mahlke's 10 points. Ross Johnson and Tom Wengren had 8 points apiece for the Trojans, who used an 11-2 second-quarter burst to build a 19-8 halftime lead. They'll play Stagg at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Large School consolation championship game.
Evergreen Park 53, Lisle 39:
The Lions (3-8) fell for the second straight day at the Lemont Christmas Classic despite 15 points from Chris Wray and 11 points from Kazim Khan. Lisle faces Lemont at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Fenwick 59, Hinsdale Central 48:
The Red Devils (3-7) fell in the consolation bracket of the Proviso West Holiday Tournament, and will face Foreman at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in their final game. Mike Ostojic and Jack Menza led with 8 points for Hinsdale Central, which rallied behind a 21-9 fourth-quarter run.
Montini 57, Sullivan 39:
A 38-14 second-half run powered the Broncos (3-5) to victory at the St. Anthony tournament in Effingham. T.J. Murray scored 15 points to pace Montini while Asante McKinley tallied 11 points. In a 62-33 loss to St. Anthony on Tuesday, Jon Gibbs led the Broncos with 10 points.
