Adoration: Friday, Nov. 12, through Sunday, Nov. 14, St. Pius V Shrine, 30 Miller Road, Lake Zurich. The St. Pius V Shrine will be holding a Forty Hours Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Sermons will be on Death and the path to Heaven. A full schedule can be found at StPiusVShrine.org.
Family theater: Reservations needed in mid-November for trip at 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 19. The Yahava Group of Hadassah North Shore will host a trip to Marriott Theatre, 10 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire, to see “The Wizard of Oz.” This is a children's theater performance for the whole family. The cost for this event is $15 per person. Proceeds from this fundraising event will benefit the Hadassah Medical Association, specifically designated to help their pediatric units. Jewish Wisdom and Wit: 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, at Congregation Or Shalom, 21 W. Hawthorn Parkway, Vernon Hills. The Chaverot Group of Hadassah North Shore invites the public to hear Rabbi Scott Looper present “Jewish Wisdom & Wit.” Free. Lecture series: 7-9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, Wildwood Presbyterian Church, 18630 Old Gages Lake Road, Grayslake. “Jews, Christians and Muslims All Part of One Family” is the program topic for the Tuesday Evening Lecture Series at Wildwood Presbyterian Church. Ronald Miller, Ph.D., will compare the core teachings and values of Judaism, Islam and Christianity, the three western monotheistic religions. This lecture is free and open to the public. Youth Aliyah Luncheon: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, Wildfire Restaurant, 1300 Patriot Drive, Glenview. The Wilmette Group of Hadassah North Shore Chapter will hold a Youth Aliyah Luncheon. The guest speaker will be Rena Olenick who will present a program reliving her journey from Siberia to Israel on the ship Exodus and then on to America. A musical program will be given by Hilary Feldman, cabaret singer, “Femme Forte: A Century of Women Song Writers.” Cost is $52 with the proceeds to benefit the programs of Youth Aliyah. Book club: 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, North Shore office, 3000 Dundee #313, Northbrook. The Chai Group of Hadassah North Shore Chapter will hold a book club meeting. Reviewing “Little Bee” by Chris Cleave will be Judy Levin, noted book reviewer. Membership in the book group is $70 or $40 for snowbirds. Review day is $10. Chili Supper: 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 3350 N. Delany Road, Waukegan. The church will sponsor a Chili Supper Fundraiser for Waukegan's C.O.O.L. Food Pantry. Chili, French bread, crackers, coffee or lemonade and dessert will be served in the Fellowship Hall. Cost is $6 per person. Thanksgiving Dinner: RSVP by Sunday, Nov. 21, for event Thursday, Nov. 25, St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 24500 N. Old McHenry Road, Hawthorn Woods. Members of the community are invited to attend St. Matthew's Fourth Annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner. Appetizers will be served at 11 a.m., followed by a traditional Thanksgiving Day dinner around noon.
