Eunice Treadway Lombard's Senior of the Year

Eunice Treadway has been named Lombard Senior of the Year by the Village of Lombard for her long-long service to others. Throughout her 85 years, Eunice has contributed her time, talents, enthusiasm, and indomitable spirit to the community in so many ways. Retirement did not slow her down.

She has given back to the business community by volunteering with the Dry and Rug Cleaners Association; to her church community by playing the organ at the Christadelphian Church in Lombard and working with youth groups and camps: to the larger community with her work with handicapped children; and to the Beacon Hill community for the past 11 years with endless hours spent working in the pantry, on the Marketing Committee, singing with the 'Hilltoppers" choir, as a past president of the Resident Council Executive Committee, and volunteering hours visiting and assisting Health Center residents.

Eunice received the honor of being voted by fellow residents Beacon Hill's Volunteer of the Year, 2008. Using her creative and computer talents she makes cards for birthdays, anniversaries, cheer, she also is the community's "unofficial" photographer, producing books and a variety of electronic presentations for many, many people. Eunice epitomizes the term "Aging Well", she is a vibrant, active lady who gives so much of herself to everyone she encounters.

Ms. Treadway was recognized this past Wednesday, 10/6, at the Lombard Senior Fair and Thursday Evening, 10/7 at Lombard Village Council Meeting.

Biography:

Eunice Dorothy (nee Martindale) Treadway was born July 25, 1925 to Emma and Clayton Martindale on the Northwest side of Chicago. She attended O.A.Thorp Grammar School and Steinmetz High School. After graduation in 1943, she worked at Continental Bank, Downtown Chicago. She married Cecil Treadway, who with his family owned/managed Boushelle Rug Cleaners, and they lived for a while next door to the plant on Chicago's south side. After expanding their family with daughter, Barbra and son Todd, they moved to Palos Heights, where they added daughter, Dale, and resided for 35 years. Eunice and Cecil are the proud grandparents of three and great-grandparents of four! After leaving Palos Heights they lived for 12 years in Darien. Eleven years ago they moved to Lombard and Beacon Hill, where they have remained contributing members of both communities. There seems to be little chance of Eunice slowing down now, there is too much to do!
