Cary-Grove wins first two at ASICS
The Cary-Grove girls volleyball winning streak is in tact.
The Trojans opened play Friday in the prestigious ASICS Challenge at Mother McAuley by beating Wahlert (Iowa) 25-20, 25-17 and then Lone Peak (Utah) 25-20, 25-14. The wins keep Cary-Grove undefeated on the season at 21-0 and run the Trojans' overall winning streak to 37 straight, tied for ninth best in IHSA history.
Kelly Lamberti had 12 kills, 6 aces and 15 digs to lead the Trojans Friday, while Colleen Smith had 25 assists and Ashley Rosch added 5 blocks.
Crystal Lake South split its two matches at the ASICS, beating LaFollette (Wis.) 16-25, 25-15, 25-18 before losing to Marist 25-13, 25-17.
Hannah Burkle had 15 kills for the Gators (10-7), while Emily Oraham added 31 assists.
Elgin Academy d. U-High: Bridgette Keslinke had 11 kills and Caitiln Ward added 7 kills with Alyssa Gazzano contributing 7 digs to lead the Hilltoppers to a 20-25, 25-20, 25-14 win over University High in the Independent School League. Angie Martinez had 25 assists for EA (6-10, 2-2).
