Outlook: Carmel returns a good number of players this season. But the Corsairs have upgraded their nonconference schedule, which could pose some challenges. "We've brought back the major core of our team back from last year," Carmel coach John Halloran said. "We still need to earn it in every game. Our schedule will be a lot tougher this year."

Outlook: Grayslake will rely on its youth to turn things around from last year. "We do have a lot of players back," Grayslake Central coach Mike McCaulou said. "Not a lot of the upperclassman. Just youthful players picking up the game." The entire FVC plays a round robin this fall with the best records in each division becomes the champion.

Outlook: Grayslake North lost 7 games by 1 goal last year, and that left its mark. "We want our close games to be a lot better this year," Grayslake North coach Adam DeCaluwe said. "We're hoping that with another year's experience under these boys' belts, they should be able to handle things a bit better and turn most of the losses into wins. We would like to see our team record back to being above .500 with our schedule becoming tougher."

Outlook: It was one of the best boys soccer classes in Lake Zurich's school history a year ago. The Bears finished second in Class 3A and will have to replace the outstanding Division I talents of Eric Pothast, Nick Janus and Tim Kreutz to make another run. "We expect hard work and teamwork," Lake Zurich coach Mike Schmitz said. "We do have a young team and good experience from last year. We will be looking for consistency as the season progresses."
Libertyville

Outlook: Mundelein made a big change, moving Javier Ramirez out of the back from goalkeeper to scorer up front at forward. Also, Coach Dave Ekstrom has reached his 400th win between boys and girls in the opening week of the season. Meanwhile, the Mustangs several experienced players. "We do have a lot of good players back that play together as a team," Ekstrom said. "As long as we play the system we'll be OK, but if we get away from it things will be difficult for us."
Stevenson

Outlook: Stevenson had a great run last season and graduated some pretty good players. The Patriots will need to regroup with some younger players. "Although we lost some great talent, we have a very talented group of young men this season," Stevenson coach Mark Schartner said. "We will have to replace almost our entire defense and more than half our midfield. I expect our forwards to be talented this year."
Warren

"The bar with the returning players has been raised," Warren coach Jason Ahonen said. "The boys have been looking forward to the season and reaping benefits from last year to move up."

Outlook: Antioch keeps on improving, and this year the Sequoits have set their sights even higher than normal. "I expect us to contend for the North Suburban Conference championship and another regional championship," Antioch coach Marni Polakow said. "Our goal is a sectional championship."

"We're hoping things come together so we can establish something and battle for the division. I see this group as hard-working and hope it continues throughout the season."

Outlook: Hugo Tellez takes over as head coach for Mike Hruska, who had a recent addition to his family. Round Lake has been like a family itself for the last couple of years with a couple of winning campaigns. "We want to keep on winning and make it a tradition, "Tellez said. "We want compete in every game and the kids are working hard to keep things going." The Panthers already opened the season by winning the Crystal Lake South tournament last weekend.
Vernon Hills

"We're looking to win our own tournament (Cougar Classic) and just want to finish our opportunities in front of the net. That's something we struggled on last fall."
Wauconda
