Antioch hits 41st, 42nd homers in wins at Stone City tourney

Olivia Duehr jacked home runs in each game, including a tiebreaking shot with a runner on base in the seventh inning of the nightcap, as Antioch's softball team won twice Saturday at the Stone City complex in Minooka.

Duehr's homer in a 5-4 win over Joliet West to start the day was the Sequoits' state record-breaking 41st of the season. The Sequoits trailed 4-1 going into the bottom of the sixth, but won it in the seventh on Jessie Liszka's walk-off single.

In Game 2, Antioch (26-5) trailed Lincoln-Way West 3-1 with two out in the top of the seventh.

After Duehr's eighth home run - which coach Jeff Tylka estimated traveled 250 feet - the Sequoits strung together consecutive hits by Allie Anttila, Lauren Moore, Amber Mysliwiec (2-run double) and Jessica Ploss.

Sam Kozenski earned the win, after Duehr notched the victory in Game 1.

Wauconda sweeps Huntley: Kate Martino added a big exclamation mark by hitting a grand slam in the sixth inning to give Wauconda's softball team the 8-0 victory as part of a nonconference doubleheader sweep of Huntley Saturday.

Brittany Ehmann pitched a 1-hitter for the Bulldogs, who improved their record to 19-12.

Wauconda edged Huntley 5-4 in Game 1 on Kendra Wedl's walk-off RBI.

Grant 5, Marian Central 4: Down by one in the bottom of the sixth, the Bulldogs added 2 runs to win at home. Kelly Kucharski hit two singles for Grant (20-13), and Rachel DePouw led the team on the mound.

Carmel splits with Marian Catholic: After dropping the opener of the East Suburban Catholic Conference doubleheader 4-1, Eden Warnke's sacrifice fly scored the game-winning run in a 4-2 victory for the Corsairs.

Skyler Zak was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI for Carmel.

Lake Zurich 3, Richards 1: At Stone City in Minooka, Megan Mattera improved to 17-10 with a complete-game 2-hitter that included 6 strikeouts.

Kelli Blume had a single and 2 RBI for Lake Zurich (21-11), Kelly Neises was 1-for-1 with 2 walks and Kaitlin Beaver had a single and an RBI.

Leyden 7, Libertyville 4: Andie Grant hit a 3-run homer in the bottom of the seventh, but the Wildcats' rally fell short in the nonconference game.

Brittany Schick and Nicole Kruckman both doubled for Libertyville (17-18).

Niles North 6, Stevenson 4: Rebekah Ozga and Genny Duffy belted triples for the Patriots. Alli Micucci added a double, and Jordan Willis went 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI for Stevenson (18-16) in its regular-season finale.

Libertyville 2, Carmel 1: On Friday, Erika Teitz belted a walk-off homer off Rachel Tack in the eighth inning, lifting the Wildcats to the nonconference victory.

Libertyville's Toni Kintzel had homered in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.

Warren 8, Waukegan 6: At Dugdale Park on Friday night, Lauren Sullivan went 3-for-4 with a double, and Paige Dombrowski homered and doubled for the visiting Blue Devils.

Warren (26-7) also got 2 doubles apiece from Sarah Clauser and Lindsay Horwitz.

Vernon Hills 7, Ridgewood 0: On Friday, Jennifer Claussen (4 innings) and Megan Meline combined on a 1-hit shutout.

Anya Mollenhauer, Lauren Yacullo and Jordyn Comitor each had 2 hits for Vernon Hills (16-18).

Grant 5, Richmond-Burton 1: On Friday, Tiffany Vann's 2-run single highlighted a 4-run sixth for the visiting Bulldogs in the nonconference game.

Vann, Morgan Liles and Rachel DePouw each had 2 hits for Grant (19-13). Winning pitcher Brie Brugioni had 7 strikeouts.
