Huntley's baseball team mounted a gigantic comeback Thursday and notched a big 5-4 win over host McHenry in a Fox Valley Conference game.
The win moved the Red Raiders (20-6, 13-4) into a first-place tie with McHenry in the Valley Division, one game ahead of Cary-Grove. Huntley and McHenry finish their series today at Huntley.
On Thursday, the Red Raiders found themselves trailing 4-1 heading into the sixth inning, but then mounted a comeback to earn the win.
Jeremy Ahillen (5-1) threw 4 innings of scoreless baseball as he gave up just 3 hits and walked 1 while striking out six to earn the victory. Bryce Only (RBI) and Phil Pupillo each recorded 2 hits while Carlos Alvarez, Tom Crohan, and Tyler Davila each drove in a run.
Cary-Grove 9, Jacobs 7: The Trojans (17-10, 12-5) carried a 6-0 lead into the fourth inning before the Golden Eagles' comeback fell just short in this Fox Valley (Valley Division) matchup in Cary-Grove. Chris Waylock (2B, 2 RBI) and Matt Panek (2 doubles) each recorded 3 hits to lead the Trojans while Eric Chandler and Nick Richter went 2-for-4 and contributed 2 RBI apiece. Kevin Olson provided a big spark for the Golden Eagles as he hit a grand slam in the fifth inning to put Jacobs on the board. Panek earned the victory on the mound as he scattered 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out six in a complete-game effort.
Crystal Lake South 12, Dundee-Crown 8: The Gators (17-10, 11-6) pounded out 16 hits as they went on to earn a victory over the Chargers in Fox Valley (Valley Division) action. Robbie Lemke (3-for-4, 3 RBI) and Chris Hauser (2-for-4, 2 RBI) each hit a home run to lead the Gators while Billy Wright went 3-for-5 with 2 doubles and an RBI. Nick Spagnola led the Chargers offensively with a 3-for-3 effort from the plate, driving in 3 runs while hitting a triple and a home run. Mark Hode (3-1) earned the victory going 41/3 innings while giving up 7 hits, 1 walk and striking out two.
