Wagner's gem lifts Wauconda
Wauconda 1, Highland Park 0: Jeremy Wagner fired a 3-hit shutout, as the host Bulldogs won the nonconference game.
"He pitched an awesome game," coach Bill Sliker said. "He pitched lights out for us."
Wagner, who's thrown five-inning no-hitters against Harvard and North Chicago this season, got the only run he needed in the sixth, when Erik Maki drew a bases-loaded walk.
Wauconda improved to 10-6.
Mundelein 10, Rolling Meadows 7: Tyler Adams homered and doubled for the host Mustangs in nonconference action.
Matt Risdon was 3-for-3 with a double for Mundelein (12-2), while Bill McMahon doubled twice. Austin Ozog also had a pair of hits, while Ryan Borucki earned the win.
Warren 13, York 6: Scott Heelan went 2-for-5 with a home run and 3 RBI, Pat Oliver was 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Jeff Johnson went 2-for-3 with a triple and 4 RBI.
Pat Kenney was 2-for-3, as well, and drove in a run for Warren (13-2). Kenney also notched the win, improving to 2-0 by throwing 32/3 innings. He allowed all 6 runs (4 earned), while allowing 5 hits, striking out two and walking three.
Hersey 9, Grant 2: Jeremy Wiker was 1-for-1 with 2 walks and an RBI for the Bulldogs in their nonconference loss.
Grant fell to 4-6-1.
Lakes 10, Whitney Young 0: Wills Massie went 2-for-3 with a triple, walk and 3 RBI, and Ryan Noone was 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored and an RBI for the Eagles.
Mark Ortman added a 2-run single for Lakes (9-6), while Travis Vanderwall (2-1) pitched a 5-inning complete game. He struck out six, walked two and scattered 3 hits.
Vernon Hills goes 2-1 at Niles North: The Cougars edged Niles North 2-1, lost to Elk Grove 4-3 and pounded Northside Prep 12-2.
Tyler Feece made another quality start for Vernon Hills in the Niles North game, while Eric Oberwise was 2-for-2. Cesar Gallegos pitched 2 innings in relief of Feece to earn the win.
Gallegos pitched well in relief again against Elk Grove. The Cougars scored 3 runs in the first inning, capped by a two-out, 2-run single by Brian Palmer.
In Vernon Hills' finale, Jerami Cruzado made a solid start to get the win.
Zach Kisley hit his second homer in as many days to lead things off for the Cougars. The offense did not look back, as Steve Nelson and Feece led the way with 4 RBI apiece. M.J. Crowley went 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Stevenson 15, Deerfield 7: Ed Heiser went 2-for-3 with a homer, double and 2 RBI for the visiting Patriots in the nonconference game.
Jacob Sholl was 2-for-3 with a double, and Kory Cutler had a 2-for-4 day with a double for Stevenson (12-1). Erick King added a triple. Cutler pitched a complete game, as well, allowing 4 earned runs in improving to 2-0.
