Lake Zurich hits back against Antioch

In a rematch of last year's North Suburban Conference championship game, Lake Zurich's softball team exacted some revenge on Antioch.

Alli McGinnis, Megan Mattera and Amanda Orchard all homered for the Bears in the NSC crossover. McGinnis finishes 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, while Orchard was 2-for-4.

Mattera scattered 5 hits in a complete-game effort. The only run she allowed was unearned. She fanned eight and walked one.

Lake Zurich improved to 8-6, while Antioch fell to 6-4.

Olivia Duehr suffered the loss.

Stevenson 11, Wauconda 2: The visiting Patriots scored 8 runs before any outs were recorded in the third inning.

Heather Cohen's 3-run homer was the big blow in the inning. Stevenson (5-7) received 2-hit games from Alyssa Vechiola (2 runs), Amanda Jaegers (4 RBI) and Allie Micucci (2 RBI). Micucci and Jordan Willis had doubles, while Rebekah Ozga poked a triple.

Micucci went the distance in the circle, striking out nine.

Kate Martino had half of Wauconda's 4 hits, as she hit a solo homer and doubled.

Warren 6, Grant 1: Alex Booker was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, Paige Dombrowski had a pair of singles and 3 RBI and winning pitcher Kayla Hurd went 2-for-2 with a double and run scored in the North Suburban crossover.

Lindsay Horwitz was 1-for-3 with an RBI double and run scored.

Dombrowski got the Blue Devils' scoring started with a second-inning RBI single.

Warren (10-4) received 5 shutout innings from Hurd, who struck out eight and walked four.

Mundelein 2, Vernon Hills 0: Hillary Bunnelle pitched a 2-hit shutout for the Mustangs in the North Suburban crossover.

Vernon Hills fell to 5-10.

Grayslake North 9, Grayslake Central 0: Kristina Gandy struck out seven in picking up the win, and she also went 2-for-4.

Mindy Runge was 2-for-4 for the Knights, as well. She had a double.

Libertyville 31, Round Lake 2: Nicole Kruckman cracked a grand slam, and the visiting Wildcats got other home runs from Athena Cocallas and Andie Grant.

Libertyville (3-6) received 4 hits apiece from Danielle Kaczmar (3 runs), Toni Kintzel (3 runs), Kruckman and Cocallas. Brittany Schick (3 RBI), Lisa Cooper (6 RBI), Grant (4 RBI) and Olivia Wilcox (3 RBI, 2 runs) each had 3 hits.

Mandy Vogg was the winner in the circle.

Carmel 7, Marian Central 6: Sophomore Jenelle DeWeld and senior Meg Grady were both 3-for-4 for the Corsairs in the nonconference game.

Carmel (3-6) received 2 hits apiece from Skyler Zak (double, 3 RBI), Sophia Kannenberg (2 runs) and Kelley Dodge (3 stolen bases, 2 runs).

Freshman Erika Schoenfeld earned the win, allowing 3 earned runs and striking out five.
