Larkin's softball team bounced back from its 7-0 loss to Elgin on Tuesday by claiming a 4-3 win at South Elgin on Wednesday.
"This was our best game all year," said Larkin coach Larry Hight."
The Royals (4-9, 2-2) got RBI doubles from Samantha King and Alex Buhrow and RBI singles from Kelsey Lodge and Kiernan Schock to lead an 8-hit offense and support the 5-hit pitching of Megan Johnson.
"This was Johnson's best game of the year, too," said Hight.
Katelyn Stonecipher had a triple for South Elgin (1-9, 0-4) and Catie Stredde went 2-for-3. Sam Bolin suffered the loss in the circle for the Storm.
"I thought Sam pitched well for throwing back-to-back games," said South Elgin coach Jason Schaal. "We just have to hit the ball more. It was a good game; unfortunately we were on the losing end."
Elgin 6, East Aurora 5: Hannah Perryman had a double and a triple and held off a late East Aurora rally to earn her fifth win of the season as the Maroons (6-10, 2-2) won for the second day in a row. Brandi Hernandez and Jaclyn Navarro each added doubles for Elgin. Hernandez was 5-for-5 in the game with an RBI and Navarro had 2 RBI.
Waubonsie Valley 5, Bartlett 0: Bartlett struck out 10 times against Waubonsie Valley ace Lauren Thresh and lost its second straight Upstate Eight game. Lisa Matsie doubled and Callie Dennison tripled for the Hawks (7-3, 4-2). Cassie Hernandez took the loss, allowing 4 runs in 2 innings. Dennison finished the game for Bartlett and allowed just 1 unearned run while striking out seven and walking one. "She kept us off balance and hit her spots real well," said Bartlett coach Jim Wolfsmith of Thresh. "Hopefully we learned our lesson." Bartlett plays in the Wendy's Classic in Ohio Friday and Saturday.
Cary-Grove 5, McHenry 0: The Trojans (9-3, 3-0) scored all their runs in the first two innings to stay perfect in the Fox Valley (Valley). Emma Gaulke was 3-for-3 and Abby Wienckowski 2-for-2 for Cary-Grove. Collette Roth added a double. Lindsay Efflandt (7-2) tossed a 3-hitter to earn the win.
Huntley 10, CL South 5: Taylor Larson hit a home run and was the winning pitcher and Huntley (8-4, 2-1) overcame 4 errors to beat Crystal Lake South in the FVC Valley. Kelsey Hagan went 4-for-5 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI for the Red Raiders, while Randi Peterson was 2-for-5 with 3 RBI. Huntley's top hitter, Jenna Mychko, was intentionally walked in four of her five times at the plate. Shannon McGinnis stayed hot for the Gators (5-3, 1-2) with a home run, a double and 2 RBI.
