Grant award: ElderCARE@ChristChurch announced that it has been recognized by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois for its success in providing services to homebound, frail elders in northern Lake County, and has been awarded a $5,000 grant to continue its efforts. Through ElderCARE@ChristChurch, volunteers from 51 different faith communities, as well as the community at large, work together to provide simple services that allows older adults to remain healthy, independent and in their own homes. The primary services provided by the volunteers include visits to decrease isolation, grocery shopping to assure elders have food of their own choosing, and transportation to medical appointments. Jan. 15Performance: Singer-songwriter Amy Shreve will be a guest artist at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1822 E. Grand Ave., Lindenhurst. The film looks at three U.S. towns which, at the turn of the last century, forced the exodus of their entire African-American population and explores what, if anything, can be done now to repair this injustice. A discussion will follow with Dino Robinson and Doria Johnson, the great, great-granddaughter of Anthony Crawford, who was lynched in South Carolina in 1916. A portion of the cash credits for all paper donations will be used toward a green gift for the community.
