Events that raise money for some type of charity, including galas, golf outings, shopping events, charity auctions, etc. Deadline is two weeks before event date.
Dec. 31
Greyhounds Only: The Dairyland Greyhound Park in Kenosha, Wis., will be closing on Dec. 31, leaving around 500 dogs in need of homes. Greyhounds Only rescue group is looking for people to foster or provide temporary shelter for dogs or donate money, dog food, or large crates. Jan. 4
Pennies-for-PADS: Jan. 4-30, Lake Villa District Library, 1001 E. Grand Ave., Lake Villa. Children and teens can pick up a reading log at the Youth Services Desk (for children) or Adult Services Desk (for teens) and join the winter reading program. For every hour participants read, LVDL will donate $1 (up to $5 per participant) to Lake County PADS. The library will also set out jars into which patrons of all ages can drop their spare change. Kohl's Step Up for Kids Stair Climb: 8 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, Aon Center, 200 E. Randolph St., Chicago. Join 3,000 serious athletes, fitness enthusiasts, family and Children's Memorial supporters as they climb 1,643 stairs at the Aon Center. Registration is $45; ages 12 and under free. It Can Be Done: Mondays and Tuesdays, Francesca's Intimo, 293 E Illinois Road, Lake Forest. Francesca's Intimo has agreed to donate 15 percent of patrons' bills to the nonprofit organization It Can Be Done! on Mondays and Tuesdays if the customer mentions the organization to a restaurant employee. The proceeds will benefit the purchasing of a drill to construct wells throughout the 12 villages of Uru on Mount Kilimanjaro, providing the 30,000 people living there with freshwater.
