Friday's Lake County roundup
Vernon Hills' girls basketball team stayed undefeated Friday night, but the Cougars hardly had it easy.
Jessica Schwartz and Alana Coy (two 3-pointers) each scored 10 points, as Vernon Hills pulled out a 42-38 win over host Grant in Fox Lake.
The Cougars improved to 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the North Suburban Prairie Division, while Grant fell to 4-6 and 1-1.
The score was tied 16-16 at halftime. Vernon Hills then outscored the hosts 18-6 in the third quarter.
Grant received 8 points apiece from Trisha Palmieri, Donnie Taggart and Heather Chapman.
Zion-Benton 37, Libertyville 35: Shay Jackson stole the ball, drove the length of the court and scored with nine seconds left to snap a 35-35 tie, as the host Zee-Bees improved to 6-2 and 3-0 in the North Suburban Lake Division.
Jackson finished with 9 points, 5 steals, 5 assists and 5 rebounds.
Juanita Robinson scored a team-best 11 points for Zion-Benton and also had 5 steals and 4 assists. Kayla Parks added 8 points and 5 boards.
Libertyville fell to 6-4 and 1-2.
Wauconda 45, Lakes 21: Melanie Prudhomme had 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals for the host Bulldogs in the North Suburban Prairie contest.
Wauconda (5-3, 3-1) also received 8 points apiece from Janelle DaCosta and Tammy Ellis (5 assists).
Lakes (2-5, 0-2) was led in scoring by Katie Brinser with 6 points.
N. Chicago 55, Round Lake 31: The Panthers fell to 4-5 overall and 0-4 in the North Suburban Prairie.
Chanae Brown and Krystal Pitts each scored 8 points for Round Lake.
