Tuesday's Lake County roundup

Grant debuted its brand new field house Tuesday night, and the girls basketball team made the evening extra special.

The Bulldogs opened North Suburban Prairie Division action with a 47-29 win over North Chicago.

Heather Chapman scored a season-high 21 points to lead Grant (3-4). Kassie Stimpson added 12 and Jaclyn Smyth had eight.

Wauconda 43, Round Lake 38: Sophomore center Erinn Hellweg scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and senior guard Kate Martino added 14 points (two 3-pointers), 3 assists and 3 steals in the North Suburban Prairie opener for both teams.

Wauconda also got contributions from Maggie Sarich (6 points, 4 rebounds), Kelsey Mills (6 points, 6 rebounds) and Melanie Prudhomme (5 steals, 2 points, 2 assists).

Round Lake junior guard Chanae Brown led all scorers with 18 points, and senior guard Kenzie Phillips scored 11 for the Panthers (3-2).

"We actually played pretty well at times," Round Lake coach Gary Edge said. "We just no answer for their height."

Zion-Benton 38, Warren 29: The Zee-Bees won their North Suburban Lake opener under new coach Tanya Johnson, as Juanita Robinson scored 14 points and Octavia Crump posted 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Zion-Benton led 12-4 after one quarter and 20-13 at halftime.

Warren (1-5, 0-1) was led by Morgan Garrett's 11 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals. Alexis Leneau had 7 points and 3 steals.

Mundelein 58, Lake Zurich 55: The visiting Mustangs captured the North Suburban Lake opener, rallying from a 43-38 deficit after three quarters.

Junior forward Olivia Dunigan scored 17 points and senior forward Brooke Evans added 11 for Mundelein (4-2). Amanda Davis chipped in nine.

Lake Zurich (2-3) received 22 points from senior guard Gabby Chapa and eight apiece from Navy-bound senior forward Audrey Bauer and junior guard Karlissa Skarb.

Grayslake N. 34, McHenry 32: Sophomore point guard Katie McGrath sank 3 of 4 free throws in the fourth quarter, as the visiting Knights pulled out the win after leading 27-26 after three.

Senior forward Lauren Erickson was Grayslake North's only double-digit scorer with 10 points. McGrath finished with 9 points and 5 boards.

Sophomore center Kinsey Siler had 6 points and 6 rebounds for the Knights (3-3). Junior guard Brianna Leon contributed 4 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals, while sophomore forward Brooke Sauer had 4 steals.

Vernon Hills 63, Antioch 58: Senior guard Alana Coy canned seven 3-pointers and scored 24 points - both career highs - as the visiting Cougars captured the North Suburban Prairie opener.

Vernon Hills (5-0) also received 19 points from 6-2 freshman Meri Bennett-Swanson. Coy hit three 3s in the second quarter and Bennett-Swanson made four shots from the floor, as Vernon Hills outscored Antioch 25-10.

Antioch (1-4) was led in scoring by Andi Potkonjak and Allie Anttila with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Jessica Ploss had 11 points, and Nicole Kelly contributed 6 points and 6 rebounds.
