Tryouts and clinics for community sports groups, plus sporting events and tournaments, skate competitions, public appearances by sports stars in the area, autograph signings, sports conventions, etc. Deadline is two weeks before event date.

Nov. 6

Ultimate Nerf Tag: Register by Friday, Nov. 6, for class from 3-5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, for ages 8-9; 5:15-6:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, for ages 10-13; 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, for ages 5-6 with a parent; or 2:45-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, for ages 7-8 with a parent, Grayslake Park District Rec Center, 240 Commerce Drive, Grayslake. Split into teams and use a specially-designed scoring vest to keep track of when and where someone's been tagged with a variety of different Nerf blasters. Each participant will be required to wear Dart Tag Vision Gear goggles. Registration required. Cost is $15 for Grayslake residents, $19 for nonresidents. Nov. 9

Turkey Shoot: Register by Monday, Nov. 9, for event at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, Sullivan Community Center, 635 N. Aspen Dr., Vernon Hills. Basketball free throw shooting contest for teams of one adult and one child ages 4-15. Teams will be grouped by child's age. Highest scoring team in each age category will win free turkeys. In-House Basketball: Register by Friday, Nov. 13. Boys and girls in grades 3-8 will practice one hour per week starting Monday, Dec. 7, and have games on Saturdays, starting Jan. 9. All interested participants must attend an evaluation on Saturday, Nov. 14 or 21. Registration is required for evaluations. The fee is $125 for Grayslake residents, $156 for nonresidents before Nov. 13, $150 for residents and $187 for nonresidents after. Palatine Turkey Trot: 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 26, Harper College, 1200 W. Algonquin Road, front of Building A. Two- or five-mile runs $23-$30. 100-yard Drumstick Dash Fun Run for Kids at 10 a.m. $5 includes T-shirt. Bring a nonperishable food item for the food pantry. Register before Thursday, Nov. 19. Nov. 20

Youth Basketball League: South Barrington youth basketball leagues are available for boys and girls in first-eighth grade. Teams will be formed in late fall and games will be played form January through March 2010. All teams are headed by a volunteer coach and all players receive a participation trophy. Nehara Hadassah Couples Bowling League: 8 p.m. on the fourth Saturday of every month beginning in August at Lakeside Lanes, 900 S. Lake, Mundelein.
