Oct. 28

Handbag and Accessories Trunk Sale: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, Advocate Condell Medical Center main lobby, 801 S. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville. Purses, wallets, capes, scarves, watches, sunglasses and more will be for sale. Proceeds benefit Advocate Condell Medical Center. For more info, call the Auxiliary Office at (847) 990-5615.

Trick or Trunk: Register by Wednesday, Oct. 28, for event 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, Bethel Lutheran Preschool, 5110 Grand Ave., Gurnee. A Trick or Trunk for preschool-age children and a silent auction to benefit the preschool, with more than 50 auction items including bounce house use for a party, a Bears player-autographed football, sewing lessons, horseback riding lessons and gift baskets. Oct. 31

Boo Bash: 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, Hastings Lake YMCA, 1995 Grass Lake Road, Lindenhurst. A K9 For Kate will host a family event to raise funds for an Allergy Alert Service Dog for a local child and create awareness for severe, food-related allergies. Admission is free, with small charges for activities to help raise funds for the charity. The event will feature a costume contest, games, crafts, face painting, music, bounce house and more. Snacks and candy (free of the top eight allergens) will also be available. Raffle tickets will be sold with a cash prize. Nov. 1

Celebrate Life variety show: 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, Cutting Hall, 150 E. Wood St., Palatine. Variety show, silent auction, raffle, craft boutique, more to benefit The Friends of Susahhah Kist, to raise funds to help pay for her cancer-related medical expenses. Susannah Kist, Wood Street Community Theater's founder and director, is fighting breast cancer. Rickets in advance are $15 adults; $10 seniors/students. At the door, $20 adults; $15 seniors/students. Pancake breakfast: 8 a.m. to noon, Sunday, Nov. 1, VFW Hall, 130 E. Grand Ave., Lake Villa. Lake Villa Township Lions Club Pancake Breakfast. All-you-can-eat pancakes, french toast, sausage links, coffee, juice and milk for $6 per person. Ages 6 and under free.

Hustle Up the Hancock: Registration opens Monday, Nov. 2 for the 7 a.m.-3 p.m. hustle Sunday, Feb. 28, at the John Hancock Center in Chicago. Climb 94 or 52 flights of the John Hancock building to benefit respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago's lung disease research, education and advocacy programs. $120 full climb; $110 haldf climb. Hadassah fundraiser: 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, McCarthy's Irish Pub, Hawthorn Mall, 506 Hawthorn Center, Vernon Hills. The Nehara Group of Hadassah North Shore Chapter will be raising funds for Hadassah projects by guest bar tending. All tips for food and drink will be donated to Hadassah. Lee Stern fundraiser: 8 and 10 p.m., Friday, Nov. 6, Zanies Comedy Night Club, 230 Hawthorn Village Commons, Vernon Hills. Comedian Tommy Johnagain will perform. Funds raised will go to purchase a Ness N200 advanced therapy system to help former ice and in-line hockey player, coach, and referee Lee Stern regain his strength and mobility after a stroke. Tickets are $25 each, and there is a two item food/beverage minimum. SEDOL Foundation Wine Experience: 6:30-10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, The Ivanhoe Club, 28846 N. Thorngate Drive, Ivanhoe. Attendees will join in a sampling of wines from all over the world, as well as gourmet hors d'oeuvres, a chocolate bar and live music. Tickets are $85 per person; al proceeds will go to provide Lake County special needs children with custom educational programs, vocational resources and social opportunities. For an additional $40 per person, guests may reserve space in The SEDOL Foundation Wine Cellar, a private tasting featuring a special gift, and tastings of rare wines. Vet Fest fundraiser: Noon-6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, Duffy's Sports Pub, 2070 N. Rand Road, Palatine. Fifth annual Vet Fest fundraiser includes silent auctions and raffles. Funds raised will purchase comfort items, T-shirts, underwear, toletries, etc., for vets in VA hospitals.

Nov. 14

SRACLC Holiday Tree Festival: 6-10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, White Deer Run Golf Club, 250 W. Gregg's Parkway, Vernon Hills. The Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County's Holiday Tree Festival. The cocktail-attire evening includes holiday trees decorated by professionals for live auction; a silent auction; hors d'oeuvres; open bar; and a dinner buffet. Proceeds go to providing therapeutic recreational programming and opportunities for children and adults with special needs. Tickets are $75 per person. Fireworks raffle: Through Nov 30. Island Lake residents working along with the village to raise money for 2010 fireworks are holding a raffle through Monday, Nov 30. Each of 10 winners will receive a "Big Boom Bucket" filled with gifts, coupons and services from area businesses. Raffle tickets are $5 each or three for $10. The drawing will be held at Island Lake Village Hall on Dec 10. The winner need not be present. To buy raffle tickets or make a donation, call Pauline Rohrer, at (847) 526-0081.

It Can Be Done: Mondays and Tuesdays, Francesca's Intimo, 293 E Illinois Road, Lake Forest. Francesca's Intimo has agreed to donate 15 percent of patrons' bills to the nonprofit organization It Can Be Done! on Mondays and Tuesdays if the customer mentions the organization to a restaurant employee. The proceeds will benefit the purchasing of a drill to construct wells throughout the 12 villages of Uru on Mount Kilimanjaro, providing the 30,000 people living there with freshwater.
