The Round Lake Area Memorial Day Parade: 10 a.m. Monday, May 25, starting at the American Legion Post 1170, 111 E. Main St., Round Lake Park. To take part, download a form at rlchamber.org.

Gurnee American Legion Memorial Day Activities: Beginning at 11 a.m. Monday, May 25, Veterans' Monument at Warren Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Gurnee. American Legion Post 771 will conduct two ceremonies to honor deceased veterans. The first, at Veterans' Monument, followed by a second at noon at the Veterans Memorial Park at the corner of O'Plaine Road and Washington St. in Gurnee. Following the ceremonies, Gurnee American Legion Post 771 and Auxiliary Unit 771 will host a luncheon at the Legion Post Home, 749 Milwaukee Ave., Gurnee. The public is invited to attend all of these events.

Gavin pre-K Screenings: By appointment Tuesday through Friday, May 26-29, Gavin South Junior High School, 25775 W. Route 134, Ingleside. Screening for the 2009-10 Gavin School District 37 prekindergarten program will take place. Children must turn 3 by Sept. 1, 2009, and not be eligible for kindergarten. Preschool screenings: Gurnee Public School District 56 holds preschool screenings during the school year at Spaulding Elementary School, 2000 Belle Plaine Ave., Gurnee. The screenings are for children ages 3-4 who live in District 56, and examine a child's skill in speech/language, fine and gross motor skills, concept development, attention span, behavior, vision, and hearing.
