Family Resource Fair: 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, Red Apple Academy, 3065 Falling Waters Boulevard, Lindenhurst. Connect with area business owners with resources, products and services for families. Door prizes will be given away and there will be a play area for children with following activities: a Spanish lesson at 5 p.m.; songs with motion at 5:30 p.m.; a game tournament at 6 p.m.; an art project at 6:30 p.m.

Public Works Open House: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 16, Village of Lake Zurich Public Works Facility, 505 Telser Road, Lake Zurich. There will be presentations, demonstrations and displays, including "Bubba" the SWALCO Recycling Activity Bus and the Clarke Environmental Mosquito Helicopter, along with refreshments and prizes. CLC food collection: 2 p.m. Saturday, May 16, Student Activities Office outside of room C101, College of Lake County, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake. Honors students at the College of Lake County are collecting nonperishable food items from now until CLC graduation. The Alpha Alpha Pi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society is asking graduates to bring food items to the CLC graduation ceremony. Students or community members may also bring items to the Student Activities Office outside of room C101 on the CLC Grayslake campus. The food will be donated to a local food pantry. Blood Drive: 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 17, United Protestant Church of Grayslake, 54 S. Whitney St., Grayslake. The church will host a LifeSource Blood Drive as part of a Boy Scout Eagle Scout Project for Max Bonczar of Scout Troop 451. Donations will be taken on a walk-in basis, or schedule an appointment by calling (847) 323-5866. Donors must be at least 110 pounds, in good physical health and at least 17 years old (or 16 with a signed parental consent form) and may not have given blood in the past eight weeks. Oakland Memories open house: 1-3 p.m. Sunday, May 17, Oakland Elementary School, 22018 W. Grass Lake Road, Antioch. In honor of Oakland Elementary's 50th birthday, the school is asking those that attended Oakland, worked at Oakland, or have children that attended Oakland to share their memories and photos of what the school meant to them. Clothes for the needy: 9-11 a.m. the second Saturday of each month, St. Andrew Episcopal Church's Elijah's Mantle for Children in Need community service project, 31 Park Ave., Grayslake. Clothing in sizes ranging from infant to size 16 boys and girls is available. Next dates are: June 13, July 11, Aug. 8, Sept. 12, Oct. 10, Nov. 14 and Dec. 12. There is no cost. Tree and bench donations: The Vernon Hills Park District offers residents and neighbors the opportunity to honor a special person or commemorate an event by donating a tree or bench in a district park. Trees range from $225-$475 depending on the species selected, and can be personalized with a bronze plaque, which is sold at cost. Benches may be purchased for donation at a cost of $700, and personalized with a bronze plaque. Prices for plaques start at $70. Pooch Pantry: 12:30-6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays, B.C. Dog Training, 920 Turret Court, Mundelein. B.C. Dog Training and B.A.R.K are collecting dry dog and cat food, canned dog and cat food, biscuits and any pet treats to help families in need feed their pets. Eli Skinner Chapter, NSDAR: The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is seeking volunteers to make wool caps for the troops stationed in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo and South Korea. Wool head covering which can be worn under the Kevlar helmet provides warmth to the head and neck, but does not restrict vision. Patterns are available at www.geocities.com/helmetliner. Electronics recycling: 8 a.m. to noon, the first Saturday of each month, Wauconda Township Highway Department, at 505 W. Bonner Road, Wauconda. All Wauconda Township residents are invited to bring in electronic recyclables. Items accepted include computers and computer components, video games, televisions, VCR/DVD players, cameras, radios and accessories, phones, and more. Allendale Association: A not-for-profit children's facility in Lake Villa, looking for qualified volunteers to work directly with children or on other projects. Help a child develop positive relationships with adults, share gardening knowledge in the vocational horticultural center, evaluate a student's Individual Education Plans and meet with the child's therapeutic team, work in the thrift store, or help in other ways.
