Mundelein edges Libertyville

Another day, another North Suburban Lake Division baseball thriller.

Drama seems to be the norm this spring and it was again Wednesday at Mundelein, as the host Mustangs scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to edge Libertyville 4-3.

Mundelein (16-3, 2-1) scored the winner after Colton Tortorello (3-for-3) led off the seventh with a double. An intentional walk to Jack Cunnion brought up cleanup-hitter Tyler Adams, who bunted.

Adams wound up colliding with Libertyville second baseman A.J. Schurr, who was covering first base, and the ball got away.

Courtesy runner Tony Skaronea raced home with the winning run.

Tortorello earned the win in relief of Dante Martinez, throwing 2 1/3 innings.

Down 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth, after Libertyville (13-5, 4-2) scored twice in the top of the inning, Mundelein got an RBI double from Cunnion and a run-scoring single from Adams.

Libertyville visits Mundelein on Saturday for a rematch starting at 10 a.m.

Wauconda 2, Grant 2 (susp.): A North Suburban Prairie Division pitchers duel ended with darkness suspending the game in the top of the 11th.

When the game will be resumed was not immediately decided.

Grant's Ryan Thorsen struck out 15 batters in 10 innings, while Wauconda's Bryce Lahrman fanned nine in 8 innings.

Grant scored twice in the top of the 10th on an RBI double from Jimi Cokefair and a run-scoring single by Brandon Magnuson.

Wauconda drew even in its half of the frame on Ted Litberg's RBI triple and Lahrman's run-scoring single.

Huntley 6, Grayslake Central 4: Angelo Gargano had a 2-run homer and Mike Gentile added a solo shot for the Rams, who suffered the tough home loss.

Grayslake Central led 4-1, but the Red Raiders scored 4 runs in the fifth to take the lead and added an insurance run in the seventh.

Huntley's Southern Illinois-bound Tanner Funke fanned 14 hitters in earning the complete-game victory.

Grayslake Central (12-8) visits Huntley on Thursday.

Grayslake North 13, Johnsburg 1: The Knights won in five innings, receiving 2 hits apiece from Drew Doering, Vinnie Licciardello (2 RBI), Brandon Schroth (double) and Joe Bowes.
