It all adds up in Carmel win
The No. 13 was certainly lucky for the Carmel baseball team on Monday.
The Corsairs pounded out 13 hits and scored 13 runs in a 13-4 victory over St. Viator.
Don Stopka led the offensive barrage with 2 home runs. Paul Poirier and Derek Jordan also had home runs. Jordan added a double, as did teammate Tyler Lindberg.
Poirier also got the win on the mound. He went 5 innings and struck out six while only walking three.
Vernon Hills 4, Antioch 1: With seven different batters getting hits, Vernon Hills used a balanced scoring attack to turn back Antioch in North Suburban Prairie Division action.
Nate Moraton got things started for the Cougars with a home run in the first inning and Chris Argianas added some insurance in the fourth inning when he hit a 2-run double.
Pitcher Scott Kempel earned the victory. He went 6 innings before Joey Bloom came in to stop an Antioch rally and get the save.
Stevenson 2, Warren 1: Junior Kyle Ruchim, a star pitcher who has already committed to Northwestern, showed that he can hit the ball, too.
He ripped a double in the bottom of the ninth inning to help Stevenson edge Warren in North Suburban Lake action.
Ruchim went 3-for-5 on the day. The Patriots also got a 2-for-3 effort out of Bill Dorn.
Just for good measure, Ruchim did do some pitching. He finished up the game by pitching the final two innings to get the victory. He struck out 3 batters and did not allow a walk in moving to 3-0 on the season.
Starter Jeremy Scheck rolled up 11 strikeouts over the first seven innings and gave up only 3 walks.
Grayslake Central 8, Crystal Lake Central 4: As recently as a few days ago, Grayslake Central was allegedly in a hitting and scoring slump.
No more.
After a 12-run showing against Dundee-Crown last Friday, the Rams (12-7) put up 8 runs on 11 hits against Crystal Lake Central.
Angelo Gargano had a double and 3 RBI to lead the way. Austin Miller added 3 hits, Mike Gentile had 2 hits, including a double, and Kurt Schmidt and Jack Karol both smacked doubles.
On the mound, pitcher Aaron Synder got the win to run his record to 5-1. He struck out 6 and walked 1 in 61/3 innings of work.
Mundelein 13, Lake Forest 1: Mundelein had plenty of offense to spare in a big North Suburban Lake Division win.
The Mustangs pounded out 10 hits in running their record to 15-2 on the season.
Kevin Barber had 3 hits, including a triple, while Tyler Adams crushed a home run and Jay Mueller added a double.
Mueller also got the win on the mound. He went 6 innings and gave up only 2 walks.
Wauconda 15, Richmond-Burton 11: Wauconda outlasted Richmond-Burton in the scoring fest.
Brian Lindberg, who got the win on the mound, had a home run, a double and drove in 6 runs. Teammate Mike Mrohen went 3-for-3 at the plate, hitting all doubles.
Jeff Jackson (1 double), Nick Jay (1 triple), Sam Theys and Brandon Dill all finished with 2 hits for the Bulldogs, who move to 9-7-1.
Lakes 10, Round Lake 0: Lakes pitcher Tim Ryan cruised through five innings, getting strikeouts in 12 of his 15 recorded outs.
Kevin Kelly and Dominick Costa gave Ryan more than enough offense. They each blasted 3-run home runs.
