Sorkin pitches Stevenson past Grant

Brad Sorkin battled and was rewarded.

The Stevenson senior struck out 10 batters over 6 innings, as the Patriots defeated Grant 9-3 Thursday.

Sorkin allowed 6 hits and 2 runs, as he improved to 4-0.

Matt Geissler went 3-for-3 with 3 doubles, 4 runs scored and 3 RBI for Stevenson (12-2) in the North Suburban crossover. Erick King had a big game for the Patriots, as well, going 4-for-4 with 2 RBI. Corey Lasky was 2-for-3, and Kyle Ruchim homered.

Grant (6-7-1) got a home run from Thomas Gier. Nate Lucas continued his hot hitting for the Bulldogs, going 2-for-4 with a 2-run double.

CL South 7, Grayslake Central 6: The Rams rallied from a 5-run deficit but fell short in the Fox Valley crossover.

Grayslake Central (10-6) used the long ball to get back in the game, as Kurt Schmidt had a 3-run homer and Mike Gentile a solo shot. Kevin DeRue had a double for the Rams, who lost their second in a row.

"The kids made a nice comeback and we just fell a little short," Grayslake Central coach Troy Whalen said. "We had our chances. We just couldn't get the key hit when we needed it."

Lakes 5, Lake Forest 4: Wills Massie's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth lifted the Eagles in the North Suburban crossover.

Tim Ryan (3-1) earned the win in relief of D.J. Snelton, who pitched 6 strong innings for Lakes (10-5). Snelton aided his cause with a 2-run single.

Vernon Hills 4, Zion-Benton 1: Jamie Manhard pitched a complete game with 6 strikeouts for the Cougars in the North Suburban crossover.

Zack Kisley led the Cougar offense by going 3-for-3 with a double, run scored, stolen base and an RBI. Nate Moraton added a double and single.

Mundelein 22, North Chicago 1: Colton Tortorello pitched 4 innings for the win and also had a triple, as the Mustangs improved to 12-2.

Mundelein got doubles from Jay Mueller and Jake Blakey.

Lake Zurich 8, Round Lake 2: Tanner Witt was the winning pitcher and had a double, as the Bears hiked their record to 12-6-1 with the North Suburban crossover win.

For Round Lake (3-7), Matt Ortiz was 2-for-2 with a walk and stolen base.

Warren 4, Wauconda 3: Nick Jay homered for the Bulldogs in the loss.

Ted Litberg was 2-for-2 with a double for Wauconda (7-6-1).
