April 18
Take a Step for Kids: Day-of-event registration begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, April, Independence Grove Forest Preserve, 16400 W Buckley Road, Libertyville. Community Youth Network's 5K/10K Run and 5K Walk will raise money to help children and families who have been victims of abuse. Start time is 9 a.m. for runners, 9:15 a.m. for walkers. Registration is $30 on the day of the event. Advance registration is $25 through Thursday, April 16; register at takeastepforkids.org.
Cheerleading and Football Registration: 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 18, The Round Lake Area Park District Sports Center, 2004 Municipal Way, Round Lake Beach. The Spartans Cheerleading and Football offers its programs to students in kindergarten through eighth grade. No prior experience is necessary. Players can expect a two or three day per week commitment. Practices will begin in mid-May, games will be played May 30 to July 11. Register before attending the evaluation, call the park district office for specific times, at (847) 223-7529. Teams will be run by volunteer parent coaches; if interested in coaching, call the Park District office. Players should bring their own glove.

Adult Softball Leagues: Captains' meeting, 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, Grayslake Park District Rec Center, 240 Commerce Drive, Grayslake. All interested teams must send a representative. A minimum 10-week season will be played, including playoffs. Teams to be offered, pending interest, include Women's on Mondays; Co-Rec 14-inch Mush on Tuesdays or Fridays; Men's 12-inch on Wednesdays or Sundays; and Seniors' 50-plus 14-inch Mush on Thursdays. Games will be played beginning the week of May 4 at Central Park, Aquatic and Alleghany Fields. Cost is $495 per resident team, $552 per nonresident team. For information, call (847) 223-7529.
Titans Cheerleading: Open gym sessions 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesdays April 21, and 28 and May 5 and 12; official team placement Thursday May 14 (time TBA), and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday May 16, Lake Zurich Gymnastics Training Center at 405 Enterprise Parkway in Lake Zurich.
