March 5

Basketball tryouts: College of Lake County, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake; and Waukegan High School, 2325 Brookside Ave., Waukegan. Lake County Sports Academy AAU Travel Basketball tryouts will be held at the following times and dates:

• Boys grade 7-8: 7-9 p.m. Thursdays, March 5 at CLC and March 12 at WHS; and 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 14 and 15, WHS.

• Boys grade 5-6: 7-9 p.m. Monday, March 9, WHS; and noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 14 and 15, WHS.

• Girls grade 8: 7-9 p.m. Monday, March 9, WHS.

• Girls grade 6-8: 4-5:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 14 and 15, WHS.

March 6

Table Tennis demonstration: 6 p.m. Friday, March 6, Sullivan Community Center, 635 N. Aspen Drive, Vernon Hills. Engelbert Solis, the 2001 Illinois state Ping-Pong champion, will demonstrate the sport of table tennis with other top professional players. Spectators will enjoy free snacks and refreshments and will also have the chance to hit the ball with the professionals. This free event is open to all ages. Table Tennis Club: 6-9 p.m. Fridays beginning March 6 and Tuesdays beginning March 31, Sullivan Community Center, 635 N. Aspen Drive, Vernon Hills. Drop-in table tennis for all ages and skill levels. March 7

Cheerleading and Football Registration: 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturdays, March 7 and 21 and April 18, The Round Lake Area Park District Sports Center, 2004 Municipal Way, Round Lake Beach. The Spartans Cheerleading and Football offers its programs to students in kindergarten through eighth grade. No prior experience is necessary. Spring Soccer League registration: Begins Monday, March 9, for Gurnee residents, Thursday, March 12, for nonresidents. T-Ball/Mesh Ball registration: Begins Monday, March 9, for Gurnee residents, Thursday, March 12, for nonresidents. Boys and girls ages 4-5 will learn the basics of hitting, throwing, and catching. Men's Hoops: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Sundays through Mar. 15, Mundelein Park District's Community Center, 1401 N. Midlothian Road, Mundelein. For adults. Come shoot hoops and play a few pickup games. Public Swim: 3-5 p.m. Sundays through March 15, Deerfield High School pool, 1959 N. Waukegan Road, Deerfield. The public can swim for relaxation, exercise and fun. Upon request, the park district will set up a lane line for adult lap swim. Cost is $3 per person (children 5 and under free). Basketball for the family: 11 a.m. to noon Saturdays, through March 21. Kirk of the Lakes Presbyterian Church, 1500 W. Hawley St., Mundelein. Games are organized by Coach Bret Reed and are open to anyone from the fifth grade to adult. All skill levels are welcome. For details, call (847) 949-8670.
