Winter Book Sale: 6-9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, Ela Area Public Library, 275 Mohawk Trail, Lake Zurich. The Friends of Ela Library will hold their winter book sales. Friday is open to members only. Members receive 10 percent off on Saturday. Remaining books will be sold for $5 a bag Sunday. Peter Mayer Benefit Concert: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, Northbrook Theatre - Northbrook Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Ave., Northbrook. Singer Peter Mayer will hold a concert to benefit the cats and dogs at Heartland Animal Shelter. The doors will open at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door for adults and $10 for children. Murder Mystery fundraiser: 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, Tuscany Restaurant, 550 S. Milwaukee, Wheeling. The Aviva/Lilah Group of Hadassah North Shore Chapter will hold a fundraising dinner with a murder mystery program presented by the Saint Sebastian Players of Chicago. Pink basketball game: 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, Warren Township High School Almond Campus, 34090 Almond Road, Gurnee. When the Warren Township High School varsity girls basketball team plays Libertyville, the Future Business Leaders of America will sell custom-designed pink T-shirts, chocolate cookies with pink sprinkles, and a variety of other items, with the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

Palatine Children's Chorus fundraiser: 6 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 21, Metropolis Ballroom, Arlington Heights. An authentic Mexican buffet dinner will be served, along with a silent auction. Tickets are $40 per person. All proceeds benefit the Palatine Children's Chorus Concert Choir trip to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico this summer. For tickets, call Kari Leonard, at (847) 776-3706. It Can Be Done: Mondays and Tuesdays, Francesca's Intimo, 293 E Illinois Road, Lake Forest. Francesca's Intimo has agreed to donate 15 percent of patrons' bills to the nonprofit organization It Can Be Done! on Mondays and Tuesdays if the customer mentions the organization to a restaurant employee. The proceeds will benefit the purchasing of a drill to construct wells throughout the 12 villages of Uru on Mount Kilimanjaro, providing the 30,000 people living there with freshwater.
