Events that raise money for some type of charity, including galas, golf outings, rummage sales, shopping events, fashion shows, picnics and sport nights. Deadline is two weeks before event date.
Jan. 11
Sunday brunch: 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, Congregation B'nai Shalom, 701 W. Aptakisic Road, Buffalo Grove. Brunch to honor Anne and Irving Mayer and Edie and Mark Richmond for their service to the Buffalo Grove Jewish community, which will feature a catered dairy meal, entertainment, a presentation ceremony, and a fundraising raffle for gifts and gift certificates. Admission is $36 per adult, $18 per child 12 and under; raffle tickets are $10 per entry, three for $25, and winners need not be present. For reservations and tickets, call (847) 415-1370.

Mini-brick Memorial: Deadline to order is Jan. 15, Grayslake Area Public Library, 100 Library Lane, Grayslake. The Friends of the Grayslake Library will sell memorial mini-bricks to be placed on a wall inside the library. The price is $50 for a 1.5-by-3-inch brick, or $100 for a 3-by-3-inch brick. Order forms are available at the library. A dedication ceremony for the new memorial wall will be held on Sunday, May 3. For information, call (847) 223-5313.

Book Sale: 5 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16; 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17; and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, Indian Trails Public Library District, 355 S. Schoenbeck Road, Wheeling. The Friends of the Indian Trails Public Library District used book sale. Members-only preview sale on Friday, with numbered entry tickets available beginning at 3:30 p.m. On Sunday, most books will be sold $3 per grocery bag. For details, call (847) 459-4100, ext. 250.

Winter Book Sale: 6-9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, Ela Area Public Library, 275 Mohawk Trail, Lake Zurich. The Friends of Ela Library will hold their winter book sales. Friday is open to members only. Members receive 10 percent off on Saturday. Remaining books will be sold for $5 a bag Sunday. It Can Be Done: Mondays and Tuesdays, Francesca's Intimo, 293 E Illinois Road, Lake Forest. Francesca's Intimo has agreed to donate 15 percent of patrons' bills to the nonprofit organization It Can Be Done! on Mondays and Tuesdays if the customer mentions the organization to a restaurant employee. The proceeds will benefit the purchasing of a drill to construct wells throughout the 12 villages of Uru on Mount Kilimanjaro, providing the 30,000 people living there with freshwater. Fruit sale: Mundelein High School instrumental band program is holding a fruit fundraising sale. An assortment of small and large cases of oranges, grapefruit, tangelos and juice oranges and combination assortments are available. Entertainment books: The Mundelein Community Women's Club is selling the 2009 Entertainment books. Two for the price of one coupons are offered at local restaurants, Marriott Theatre, Ravinia and discounts at Dominick's, car washes, cleaners and sporting events.
