Round Lake edges Grant

Round Lake's girls basketball team defeated Grant for the first time since the 2000-01 season Tuesday night.

Amber Phillips and Labrenthia Murdock scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, as the Panthers won 46-42 in a North Suburban Prairie Division game.

"It was a very intense game," coach Gary Edge said after his Panthers improved to 13-2 overall and 5-0 in the division heading into Thursday night's showdown at Wauconda.

Ashley Miller added 7 points for Round Lake.

"I thought she played real well," Edge said.

Miller sank a big basket down the stretch, while Stephanie Infante hit 3 of 4 free throws to help the Panthers hold on.

Grant (10-7, 2-3) was led by Gina Cellucci and Heather Chapman with 12 points apiece. Cellucci scored all of her points on four 3-pointers.

Wauconda 44, N. Chicago 39: Kate Martino had 19 points and 6 steals, as the Bulldogs improved to 13-1 overall and 5-0 in the North Suburban Prairie Division.

Wauconda outscored North Chicago 14-1 in the second quarter to led 22-9 at halftime, only to drop the third quarter by a 19-10 margin, as the visiting Warhawks closed within 32-28.

Wauconda held on, with Lauren Mead contributing 15 points and 14 rebounds.

North Chicago's Tatianna Webb led all scorers with 21 points.

Vernon Hills 52, Lakes 40: Jessica Schwartz had 9 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals, as the Cougars won their fifth in a row and eighth in nine games.

Vernon Hills (9-8, 2-2 North Suburban Prairie), which moved above .500 for the first time this season, led 18-4 after the first quarter and was up 34-10 at halftime.

Three Cougars - Julie Pecht, Mallory Feece and Sarah Krippinger - had 6 points. Alana Coy contributed 5 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Krippinger had 4 rebounds and 3 steals, as well.

Lakes (1-14, 0-5) received a game-high 15 points from Amber Larsen. Mary Doupis scored 9.

Maine South 42, Warren 29: The host Blue Devils spotted the Hawks a 13-3 lead after one quarter and never recovered.

Kim Kohlndorfer scored a game-high 14 points for Maine South, which led 25-8 at halftime. Marla Pettis led Warren (7-9) with a season-high 13 points. Joree Green added 8, while Morgan Garrett grabbed 10 rebounds.
