Men's Club Hebrew Literacy Class: 8-9 p.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 4-Jan. 27 (no class Dec. 23 or 30, graduation 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30), Congregation Beth Judea, Route 83 and Hilltop Road, Long Grove. Open to any adult; learn to read Hebrew regardless of level of previous instruction. The cost is $30, which includes the "Shalom Aleichem" textbook. Moon Over Fox Lake: 6:30-9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, Fox Lake District Library, 255 E. Grand Ave., Fox Lake. Free Lake County Astronomical Society event suitable for all ages. Powerful telescopes will be available for participants to look at the moon and Jupiter. No advanced registration is required. Nov. 6

Lake County Astronomical Society: 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, Ela Area Public Library, 275 Mohawk Trail, Lake Zurich. Utilizing powerful telescopes, amateur astronomers from the group will share views of the moon and perhaps Jupiter from outside the library. These telescopes can magnify the view of the moon and planets as much as 200 times normal size. In recognition of the election season, children who attend will be voting to name the club's newest telescope. This event is free and open to all ages. Diamonds and Denim: 6:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, Royal Melbourne Country Club, 4700 Royal Melbourne Drive, Long Grove. The Hawthorn Woods Women's Club's Third Annual Charity Casino Night, featuring Las Vegas-style gambling, Texas Hold'em tournaments, a silent auction, and a raffle along with a light buffet and entertainment. The dress code is "casual chic"; women are encouraged to wear their finest denim and jewelry. A contest will be held for the Best Denim. All proceeds will benefit women and children in Lake County. Lake County Art League members show: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, through Nov. 17, Jack Benny Center for the Arts in Bowen Park, 1800 N Sheridan Road, Waukegan. The show presents 44 pieces of fine art created by local artists and includes acrylic, oil, and watercolor paintings; pastel, encaustic and scratchboard art plus photographs and mixed media work.
