Party with the stars: 5:30-9 p.m. Oct. 18, Stillman Nature Center, 33 W. Penny Road, Barrington. Bring the family and check out lunar landscapes, the moons of Jupiter and other celestial wonders with the help of telescopes provided by members of Northwest Suburban Astronomers. Oct. 25

Palatine Park's Howl-O-Ween party: 1:30-2:30 p.m. Oct. 25, Ost Field, on Colfax, behind the Community Center, 250 E. Wood St., Palatine. Bring your canine friends, trick-or-treating, photo opportunity, Howling House of Terrier, pooch costume parade. When registering, dog owners must show a current rabies tab. FIV seminar: 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, Grayslake Area Public Library, 100 Library Lane, Grayslake. Save-A-Pet presents a short seminar to dispel the myths and rumors associated with FIV, a virus that affects cats and is similar to HIV in humans, that will include an explanation of the virus and how it affects felines and testimonials from volunteers who work with our FIV cats. Northeastern Illinois Rose Society: 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26 at Warren-Newport Public Library, 224 North O'Plaine Road, Gurnee. Social will begin at 1 p.m. followed by business meeting at 1:30 p.m. and program. Erv (Erwin) Barrington will speak on digital photography of roses. The public is welcome. Howl-o-ween Howl: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, K-9 Playtime, 403 Washington Blvd., Mundelein. Events include a costume contest at noon, playtime, games, food, raffles, a professional pet photographer, and representation of dog rescue/adoption groups.
