Green Wave roll in SCC

The St. Edward girls volleyball team kept its hold on second place in the Suburban Catholic Conference Thursday night.

St. Edward improved to 12-10 overall and 9-2 in Suburban Catholic Conference play with a dominating 25-7, 25-5 win over Driscoll.

Leading the Green Wave attack were Kristen Haggenjos (7 kills, 2 digs), Rachel Varley (3 assists, 2 digs) and Katie Yohn (4 kills, 6 assists). Freshman Katie Ayello had an outstanding day for St. Edward with 24 service points including 5 aces.

St. Charles East d. South Elgin: South Elgin (6-16, 2-5 Upstate Eight) fell to St. Charles East in two games by scores of 25-14, 25-11. Genevieve Johnson led the Storm with 5 digs.

Bartlett d. Larkin: Behind solid efforts from Carly Sahagian, who had 11 kills, 6 aces and 2 digs, Bartlett (13-4-1, 5-2) picked up this 25-11, 25-18 Upstate Eight Conference win over Larkin. Tori Burke added 20 assists for the Hawks. Claire Sherman had 7 digs, Jessica Harris 4 digs and 6 kills and Amanda Lye 3 kills for the Royals (6-19, 1-8).

Burlington Central d. North Boone: Stephanie Holthus led the Rockets (19-3, 7-0) to victory putting away 10 kills with 7 aces to defeat North Boone 25-9, 25-13 in the Big Northern East. Molly Turk tallied 17 assists with 5 kills as BC combined for 17 aces from the line as a team.

Hampshire d. Richmond Burton: The Whip Purs improved to 24-2 overall and 5-2 in the Big Northern East with a 25-12, 25-23 win over Richmond-Burton. Amy Wehrs led at the Whip-Purs with 12 kills while Kara Wehrs tallied 14 assists. Chessa Osiecki also contributed on defense with 8 digs.

Cary-Grove d. Jacobs: The Trojans (23-3, 6-0) remained undefeated in the Fox Valley (Valley), defeating Jacobs in three tough games 25-17, 23-25, 25-15. Allison Straumann led Cary-Grove with 10 kills while teammate Kayla Kalinger put away 5 kills with 10 digs and 4 aces. Stacie Weinert (14 digs, 2 kills, 2 aces), Lauren Pigatto (4 kills, 4 aces, 14 digs) and Amy Cavanaugh (7 kills, 7 digs) led the Golden Eagles.

Crystal Lake South d. McHenry: Tallying 25 assists, Jordan Guida led Crystal Lake South to victory defeating McHenry 25-12, 25-10 in the FVC Valley. Erin Johnson and Katie Trayser had 7 kills each for the Gators. Lena Mack also added 5 kills.

Elgin d. East Aurora: With key contributions from Kendall Martin (8 kills), Ellen Holton (6 kills), Abbey Houde (14 assists) and Lindsey Morrow (5 digs), Elgin (12-9, 4-3) beat East Aurora in Upstate Eight Conference play. The Maroons won 25-15, 25-16.

Woodstock d. Dundee-Crown: Stephanie Thorson (9 kills) and Alyssa Sarrazine (6 kills) provided strong play but Dundee-Crown (12-8, 2-4) fell to Woodstock 27-25, 25-22 in this Fox Valley Conference Valley Division meeting.

Huntley d. Grayslake North: The Red Raiders (14-7, 5-1) found continued success in Fox Valley Conference Fox Division play with this 25-20, 25-13 win over Grayslake North. With 5 kills, 3 digs and 2 aces, Allyson Stellmach led the way. Amy Dion contributed with 3 kills and 9 digs.

Neuqua Valley d. Streamwood: The Sabres (5-16, 2-6) battled but fell short in this Upstate Eight Conference match 25-13, 28-26. Betsy Holman led Streamwood with 7 kills.
