• The Helen M. Plum Memorial Library and the Lombard Historical Society will sponsor the village's first Lilac Community Read. The book chosen for the program is "Green Valley," published in 1919 by Lombard author Katharine Reynolds. The book may be purchased by Monday at the Plum Library for $15, which also includes lectures and book discussions. A Green Valley trolley tour also will be offered and costs $5. The novel can be downloaded free at gutenberg.org/etext/18801. Reynolds settled in Lombard in 1905 and started the village's first newspaper, "The Lombard Breeze" in 1912. She wrote "Green Valley" to combat homesickness while visiting South America. • "Toilet Tales," a display of items that have been flushed down local toilets, will be on display through Monday at the Roselle Public Library, 40 S. Park. The display, which includes a collection of children's toys, was assembled by the village of Roselle Public Works Department's Wastewater Treatment Division.
