Round-up: Larkin gains win vs. Lake Park

Despite missing Alex Tyton and Raul Sandoval from the starting lineup, Larkin (9-3-1, 3-1-1) earned an Upstate Eight Conference boys soccer shutout over Lake Park, 1-0, Tuesday with everybody stepping up to fill holes.

David Rodriguez scored the lone goal of the game assisted by Michael Berruquin. Berruquin recently returned to the roster after spending time out with a broken collar bone.

Raziel Somarriba could not be beat, tallying 9 saves en route to the shutout for the Royals.

Boys soccer

Dundee-Crown 3, McHenry 1: Dundee-Crown (8-4-1, 4-2) earned its fourth straight victory defeating McHenry in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division action. The Chargers had goals from Eugen Zau, Eddie Bernal and Christian Meza. Meza also assisted the Zau score to open the game.

In goal, Mike Zozokos netted 14 saves.

Cary-Grove 3, Jacobs 2: With a first half goal from Andy Martin, assisted by Conor Keady, Cary-Grove (12-2, 4-2) took an early lead and held on for this Fox Valley Conference Valley Division victory over Jacobs.

Additional scoring from Nick McDonald (Andy Roberts assist/ Calvin Brown) who scored the final two Trojan goals kept C-G on top.

Jacobs (3-10, 0-6) never let up getting goals from Mark Kyszka and Peter Sieminski to stay in the game.

Danny Trevor (6 saves) was in goal for the Golden Eagles, while Keenan Walsh (5 saves) defended the net for C-G.

Illiana Christian 4, Westminster 1: In the Private School League, Westminster (6-7-3) fell to Illiana Christian 4-1. Scoring the Warriors' only goal was Tyler Beachler off a penalty kick. Ethan Flickinger was in goal for Westminster tallying 10 saves.

Prairie Ridge 2, Crystal Lake Central 1: In the Fox Valley (Fox) Conference matchup the Wolves defeated Crystal Lake Central 2-1. Prairie Ridge was led by Zach Piekarski who scored the first goal on an assist from Alex Sauciuc. For the Tigers Anthony Arico was able to tie up the game with an unassisted goal to allow both teams to go into overtime. After the first overtime and no result Prairie Ridge's Sauciuc scored the final goal of the game about 8 minutes into double overtime. A.J. Strum was in goal for the Wolves with 9 saves.

Neuqua Valley 5, South Elgin 1: South Elgin (3-8, 0-4) dropped its fourth Upstate Eight Conference match of the year as Neuqua Valley defeated the Storm 5-1. South Elgin was held to only one second half goal scored by James Hollander on an assist by Kevin Gilbert.

Burlington Central 2, Marengo 1: Burlington Central (8-4-2, 3-1-1) picked up its fifth straight win with this Big Northern East Conference victory over Marengo. Trailing 1-0 at the half, the Rockets battled back with goals from Enrique Alvarado and Danny Conran to win it. Mike McCurdy and Alvarado each recorded assists. In goal, Kyle DeRaedt collected 3 saves.

Huntley 2, Grayslake North 0: Huntley (7-7, 4-2) jumped out to a 1-0 halftime lead with a goal from Niko Carbonara assisted by Zach Draper, and never looked back in this Fox Valley Conference Fox Division win. Chris Hagan added an unassisted insurance goal during the second half, while Kevin Montelongo (8 saves) defended the Red Raider net.

St. Francis 5, St. Edward 0: St. Edward (1-13, 1-1) suffered its first Suburban Catholic Conference defeat via the shutout. Will Lytle racked up 10 saves in the losing effort.

Hampshire 4, Hinckley-Big Rock 1: Behind 2 goals from Junior Makinde, a goal from Jose Lopez and one from Dustin Sundquist, Hampshire (10-3-2) earned this nonconference win. Shay Hauck added two assists, while Cameron Rath recorded 7 saves to help the Whip-Purs stay on top.

Crystal Lake South 2, Woodstock 0: The Gators (10-7-1) defeated Woodstock 2-0 in the Fox Valley (Valley) Conference battle. Setting the path for Crystal Lake South was Kevin Novak who scored in the first half on a penalty kick. Bryan Walsh was also able to score to keep the Gators in the lead. Zach Dalzell was in goal for Crystal Lake South with 4 saves for his eighth shutout of the season.

East Aurora 6, Streamwood 1: East Aurora dominated this Upstate Eight Conference meeting to beat Streamwood (7-10-1, 2-3). The Sabres lone goal came off the foot of Yuto Tsukida and was assisted by Alex Lopez.

Juan Ortiz (12 saves) and Manuel Ocampo (7 saves) split goalkeeper time for Streamwood.

Girls Volleyball

Cary-Grove d. McHenry: The Trojans (19-4, 3-0) came out with a victory over McHenry in the Fox Valley (Valley) Conference matchup. Cary-Grove defeated McHenry 25-8, 25-13 to allow them to remain undefeated in conference. The Trojans were led by Kelly Lamberti, who put away 6 kills and collected 4 blocks. Abbey Heredia also added 4 aces and 16 assists in another victorious conference win for the Trojans.

Wheaton Academy d. Westminster Christian: Despite solid efforts from Jessica Benson (2 aces, 2 blocks, dig), Sarah Russel (ace, dig, 4 assists) and Sarah Rodgers (2 kills), Westminster Christian (4-14, 0-5) dropped this Private School League meeting in two games by scores of 25-3, 25-18.

Prairie Ridge d. Huntley: The Wolves won their second straight match by sweeping the Red Raiders 25-21, 25-17 in a Fox Division tilt in Huntley.

Prairie Ridge (10-8, 2-1) was ignited by Sondra Parys' 9 kills and 6 kills from Katie Dougal, but solid defense was also a key to the victory.

Toni Jaehnig finished with 3 kills, 3 digs and an ace for Huntley (8-11, 0-3).

Woodstock d. Jacobs: Despite a hard fought battle, Jacobs (8-10, 0-3) came up short in this Fox Valley Conference Valley Division loss losing to Woodstock in three games (25-19, 15-25, 25-22).

Leading Golden Eagle efforts were Brittney Mascola (24 digs, 2 aces), Stacie Weinert (4 kills, 2 blocks, 2 aces, 10 digs), Erica Liss (2 kills, 9 digs, 21 assists), Amy Cavanaugh (8 kills, 2 digs) and Carlie Schwabe (10 digs).

Men's soccer

ECC 1, Waubonsee 1: Trailing 1-0 at the half, Elgin Community College (1-1-6, 0-3-1) battled back to end this ISCC match in a 1-1 tie. Armando Estrada scored the Spartan goal assisted by Luis Martinez. Joe Ruffolo tended to the ECC net recording 4 saves to keep things even.

Women's volleyball

ECC d. Morton: The Spartans (19-8) came out victorious in this ISCC match, winning 30-17, 30-27, 30-19. Leading the Spartans in kills was Ilse Belmonte who collected a team-high 12. Right behind was teammate Jaclyn Brannon who was able to put away 11 kills, while Staci Holthus contributed with 16 digs. Kristin Kramer also added 4 aces and collected 31 assists to lead the Spartans to another victory.
