Registration for the SALUTE Memorial Day Weekend 5K/10K is Now Open

SALUTE INC., the non-profit dedicated to meeting the financial, physical and emotional needs of injured military service members, veterans and their families, will once again host a 5K/10K race in Arlington Heights on Memorial Day Weekend. Registration is now open for this year's race, which has a new USATF-certified course, a new post-race pancake breakfast, and a challenge from Mayor Tom Hayes.

"This is a very important event for us," said SALUTE, INC. co-founder and Executive Director Mary Beth Beiersdorf. "Not only does the event bring the community together, it raises awareness for the SALUTE mission and the fact that there are many veterans in need who are living in our community."

No one knows the importance of the SALUTE mission like Arlington Heights Mayor and retired U.S. Army veteran Tom Hayes. Mayor Hayes is an avid runner and frequent marathon participant, and he's ready to take on local challengers. He recently announced that he'll donate $5 to SALUTE, INC for every person who beats his time in the 5K.

Both the 5K and 10K races will begin near Recreation Park on May 27th and feature an Adaptive Athletes start. Registration is open now through 7:45 a.m. on the morning of the race, but runners are encouraged to register before May 17th.

"The entry fee generally covers the race costs," says Beiersdorf. "We hope that after the race runners take a moment to visit the SALUTE website to read the stories of our clients and make a donation to help these service men and women, and their families, get back on their feet. Every bit helps and our community grows stronger when we take care of our own."
