Fox Valley Nutcracker to have open auditions July 30

Back by popular demand, the Fox Valley Nutcracker will hold open auditions for their 2017 production of the beloved holiday classic, "The Nutcracker." Auditions will be held on Sunday, July 30, in Batavia.

Recently presented by State Street Dance Studio in Geneva, now the Fox Valley Nutcracker, will be presented by Fox Valley Ballet, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Its mission is to bring the joy and artistry of dance to the Fox Valley region through pre-professional ballet training and performances, such as the holiday classic, "The Nutcracker."

Currently in her fourth year as the artistic director of the show, Ashlie Andersen is looking forward to collaborating with dancers from all over the Fox Valley region.

"My biggest goal this year is to bring together all of the many talented dancers from all over the area, not just one specific school, to put on the largest and most spectacular production this area can have," says Andersen.

The Fox Valley Nutcracker is not affiliated with any dance school and will be presented by Fox Valley Ballet. Fox Valley Ballet will be starting a scholarship fund with the proceeds from this year's performance to award a dancer in the Fox Valley area a scholarship to attend a summer program in the 2018.

The Fox Valley Nutcracker was named as "One of the top 10 must-see Nutcracker productions in Illinois" in 2015 in Pointe Magazine's worldwide search for America's favorite "Nutcracker." The production also mesmerizes its audience with its visual technical side that includes moving set pieces, aerial dancers, and special affects.

They are looking forward to bringing together talented young dancers from throughout the Fox Valley region for one spectacular holiday production.

The open auditions for dancers and non-dancers, age 5 and older, will be held on Sunday, July 30, at A Step Above Dance Academy, 129 Flinn St. in Batavia. It is open to all levels and abilities to attend.
