Saint Viator Launches 72-Hour Social Media Fundraiser

Beginning Tuesday February 7th, Saint Viator High School will be reaching out to alumni via social media for a 72-hour fundraiser. The first campaign of this kind for the school will allow funds to be targeted to various segments of the school through the Fund My Passion option of the Alumni Pride campaign.

"We're very excited about this new campaign and look forward to engaging all alumni in the effort," said Tom Ramsden, Director of Development for the school. "In past years we conducted phone-a-thons for alumni but that tactic is becoming outdated. In the past year or two we have worked hard at building relationships with alumni across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and hope to now give our alumni the chance to support current and future students through the Alumni Pride initiative."

Ramsden noted that current students are in the midst of their annual two week fund-raiser, Lion's Pride. "Alumni Pride is our way of having alumni show current students that they are still committed to the school and are embracing our Lion for Life philosophy."

Alumni from both Saint Viator and Sacred Heart of Mary high schools are encouraged to donate and have the option of targeting their contribution to the general scholarship program, or an affinity group within the school such as athletics, the arts, technology and others, according to new Alumni Relations Manager Kathleen Corrigan Lynde (SVHS '05). "We want alumni of all ages to feel that they can give back to the part of Saint Viator that most influenced them while they were students. We are really hoping that many of our young alumni will find the combination of Fund My Passion and the ease of online donation to be something they are willing to support. Even a $10 or $20 donation makes a difference."

As part of the 72 hour drive, Ramsden also hopes to see alumni continue to connect to the school and one another through social media. "Surveys show us that alumni want to reconnect with classmates more than anything so we have been diligently working to build those opportunities. In addition to making a donation this week, we hope alumni will offer a memory, provide an update on what they are doing, or share an old photo. Staying connected is something we want to encourage."

Alumni are encouraged to Like the Saint Viator and Sacred Heart Alumni Facebook page and to follow the school on Twitter @saintviatorhs.
