

While at the drive-thru at Portillos in Vernon Hills, I noticed a nice row of icicles forming on the roof. The sun was low in the sky and cast a nice shadow on the light as well as the icicles hanging from it. I like the fact that the light isn't centered in the frame but the shadow is. Mario Ortiz, of Autumn Tree Care Experts in Warrenville, trims dead branches and limbs out of parkway trees in the 100 block of Sleight Street in Naperville Monday morning. Ortiz, of Elgin, has been trimming trees for more than four years. Trimming trees in the late winter while they are dormant encourages new vigorous grow come spring, he said.

Ski Jumper Mikael Kveder, from Slovenia, glides down the 70-meter hill at the Norge International Ski Jumping Tournament in Fox River Grove recently as snow clouds envelope the early afternoon sun.
