Cook County Board District 15: Schneider

The 15th Cook County Board District got a new voice four years ago, when Tim Schneider replaced longtime member Carl Hansen as its representative.

Like Hansen, Schneider is a Republican who can work with the Democratic majority, and he has won the respect of many of the county board's more reform-minded Democrats. Schneider has been an outspoken voice for fiscal restraint and a guard against wasteful spending. He believes county government can be cut, using a system of attrition, not layoffs, that will eventually save the county hundreds of millions.

He supports rolling back the sales tax and supports property tax reform to re-interest business in returning to Cook County. He worked successfully with Democrats to limit campaign contributions county vendors can make to county board members.

Schneider is strongly endorsed over Jim Dasakis, chairman of the Hanover Township Democrats and Green Party candidate Laura Ehorn.
