Candidate forum Sunday:The League of Women Voters of Lake County and the Daily Herald will host a forum featuring the candidates vying for the state House District 59 seat in the Feb. 2 primary. It will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17 at the Laschen Community Center, 294 Evergreen Drive, Vernon Hills. All five candidates are expected to attend. Democrats, state Rep. Carol Sente and Buffalo Grove Village President Elliott Harstein will be present along with Republicans Mohan Manian, Cynthia Hebda and Dan Sugrue. Candidates for judge in the Appellate Court and 19th Circuit Court will present their qualifications but will not participate in a formal question period. The 59th District includes portions of Buffalo Grove, Green Oaks, Gurnee, Indian Creek, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire, Long Grove, Mettawa, Mundelein, Northbrook, North Chicago, Park City, Riverwoods, Vernon Hills, Waukegan and Wheeling.Job fair in Lake Villa Township:Lake Villa Township sponsors a job fair from 8:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16 at the township west campus (formerly Gavin North School), 37850 N. Route 59, Lake Villa, one-quarter mile south of Grand Avenue. A wide range of career and job opportunities will be represented including professional, hourly, technical and nontechnical jobs, in addition to summer and part-time jobs. Exhibits include the latest innovation and technology in home building, remodeling, modernizing, enlarging, decorating and landscaping. Activities include cooking demonstrations, drawings for free products and services, do-it-yourself interactive exhibits, ask the expert sessions, pruning classes, live entertainment, good food, kids' activities, free promotional goods, and live radio and television broadcasts. The voter must complete a special application and their physician must complete an affidavit. Forms are available by calling (847) 377-2311. All required forms must be completed and returned to the Lake County Clerk's office before the voter's certificate of application and ballot being issued.
