Barrington passes by Conant

Barrington juniors Sarah Mass and Shelby Whigham passed some good-natured barbs back and forth about playing basketball together since the fourth grade.

Just as enjoyable for the Fillies on Saturday afternoon were the passes from Mass and Whigham to each other and their teammates in their 45-22 Mid-Suburban West victory over visiting Conant.

"It was definitely the best passing we've done all season," said Mass, who had 6 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists.

"It was really important that we came out really psyched (up) about the game," said Whigham, who scored a game-high 14 points on 7-for-10 shooting and had 4 assists and 3 rebounds. "We came out with a positive intensity that really helped."

Whigham hit her first 4 shots in the first quarter as the Fillies (10-7, 3-1) bounced back from a season-low 28 points in Tuesday's loss to Prospect. They shot 58.8 percent from the field (20-for-34) and led 41-16 after three as Abby Kirchoff and Nicole Collins had 7 points apiece.

"I thought our passing and ball movement was excellent," said Fillies coach Babbi Barreiro. "Sarah set that tone for us - and Shelby looked so confident."

Ashley Lindeman and Natalie Kutramanes had 5 points each as Conant (5-12, 1-3) hit its first 2 shots but missed 19 of its next 20 and finished at 15 percent (6-for-39).

"We keep fighting and competing but they did what a good team does in the (18-2) third quarter and knocked down some shots," said Conant coach Dan Travers. "We have to overcome that frustration."
