First Congregational's Rev. Arn Schaper honored with the title of pastor emeritus

On Sunday, Oct. 30, the First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake honored the Rev. Arn Schaper with the title of pastor emeritus.

The title of pastor emeritus honors a person whose lengthy ministry in that local church has been one of distinguished and transformative service.

For over 50 years, Rev. Schaper has served as associate minister at the First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake. He has also been pastor and counselor to many in the greater Crystal Lake community.

During his tenure, Rev. Schaper celebrated the weddings of over 2,300 couples and comforted the families of more than 3,000 individuals whose funerals he officiated. He has served on the boards of numerous nonprofits throughout the county and was an adjunct philosophy professor at McHenry County College.

Through his ministry of love, humor, and non-anxious presence, Rev. Schaper transformed not only the First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake, but the wider city and county as well.

Over the last five decades, through the many celebrations and tribulations that we have faced, "Pastor Arn" has been a constant presence.

While Rev. Schaper officially retired from ministry in 2020, he continues to offer inspiration, comfort, and strength to countless many. The First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake rejoices in Rev. Arn Schaper's continued ministry and leadership as their pastor emeritus.

Founded in 1842, the First Congregational Church serves Crystal Lake and the surrounding communities. For information on the church, visit fcc-cl.org or www.facebook.com/fcc.cl/.
