On Thursday, Oct. 28, the League of Women Voters of Roselle-Bloomingdale and League of Women Voters of Wheaton in partnership with the DuPage County Regional Office of Education will host a webinar titled, "Helping Our Children Thrive: Bullying and Behavior in These Challenging Times" from 7 to 8 p.m. via Zoom.

Due to the pandemic, school-aged children and adults have been living in isolation for more than 18 months. That has created a higher incidence of anxiety, depression, and behavioral challenges in our homes, schools, and the community at large. How can we best support our children and teens during this unprecedented and extremely challenging period?

Parents and community members need the most up-to-date information on bullying and other challenges we are seeing. Our webinar will feature Mary Ellen Young, a parent educator and bullying prevention specialist. Young is a service provider to the DuPage County Regional Office of Education where she trains school personnel on topics including restorative practices, bullying prevention, trauma, and social emotional learning.

Young will provide an understanding of bullying and other relational difficulties our children experience, and explain how the DuPage County Regional Office of Education supports local school districts in bullying prevention and intervention, mental health, school climate, and social emotional learning.

The webinar also will explore how stress and trauma impact children's development, and provide strategies and resources for parents and community members.
