McHenry County Conservation District celebrates Latino participation at restoration workdays
McHenry County Conservation District is inviting the Latino community to participate in "Latinx Restoration Workdays" this summer. Get outdoors and be a part of conservation work and environmental efforts.
The first date will be Sunday, May 2, from 1-4 p.m. at Kishwaukee Headwaters, 1606 Dean St. in Woodstock.
The second coincides with the celebration of Latino Conservation Week on Saturday, July 17, from noon to 3 p.m. at Hickory Grove Highlands, 500 Hickory Nut Grove Road in Cary.
Both events provide an opportunity for Latinos to protect our natural resources. Organized events like these highlight the longstanding connection between Latinos and the outdoors, providing opportunities for residents to meet other Latinos interested in conservation.
Participants should wear work boots or sturdy shoes and long pants. Bring sunscreen, insect repellent, and drinking water. A snack will be provided, and no experience is necessary. The McHenry County Conservation District currently owns and protects 25,570 acres of open space which provides wildlife habitat preservation, educational opportunities and recreational amenities for the residents of McHenry County to enjoy.
