Barrington United Methodist Church 86th Annual Rummage Sale

Do you love a great find? Then come explore an incredible array of affordably priced, quality items at this year's Barrington United Methodist Church Rummage Sale. The much-anticipated Rummage Sale returns to Barrington United Methodist Church, 98 Algonquin Rd. (southeast corner of Route 59) in Barrington on Friday, October 4 from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm and Saturday, October 5 from 9:00 am to noon.

Great finds and treasures will fill an entire wing of the church and spill out into 1,300 square foot tent. Thousands of clean, usable sale items will include clothing, shoes, accessories, toys, lamps, housewares, tools, sporting goods, linens, holiday items, crafts, fabrics, small furniture pieces, bikes, and lawn items.

Among the many departments in the sale, you won't want to miss the exquisite French Room, filled to the seams with carefully selected, high quality items, including china, jewelry, clothing, antiques and collectibles, and other amazing treasures. "You can find most anything from designer label clothing and famous maker purses to tools, lamps, and Christmas ornaments," said co-chair Linda Osikowicz.

For those looking for fabulous bargains, the popular half-price sale will begin at 3 pm on Friday in select departments and the French Room will be half price on Saturday. Saturday shoppers can take advantage of the Bargain Bag Sale, where you can purchase anything you can fit into a select bag for $5 or $10 in select departments.

"The sale is a great opportunity to find some unique treasures and bargains. But more importantly, it provides funds for many worthy organizations and provides families a way to stretch their budget with a selection of needed items at a low price," said committee member Carolyn Schneider.

Proceeds benefit many local and Chicago-based organizations that work with women, children, and youth. The event also contributes to the mission outreach of the national organization of United Methodist Women, providing support for institutions and projects related to women, children and youth in the United States and in more than 100 countries around the world.

By donating and attending the sale, you can make a difference in the environment. "Donating items is a great way to 'be green'-it's a way of recycling and keeps usable items out of landfills," added Nancy Koutsis. Items that are not sold also find new homes at various resale shops and organizations or are recycled.

Countless volunteers help to collect, sort and organize the incredible array of quality items offered at the sale. "Our volunteers are a huge reason for the success of our rummage sale," says volunteer co-chair Sydney Whitley. Other committee members include Norma Jung-Stein, Nancy Koutsis, Pam Larsen, Carolyn Schneider, and Sandy Starnes. Hundreds more volunteers come together to work, enjoy fellowship and make the event successful year after year. "Their commitment to bringing new and gently used items to those who need them while also bringing in funds for our mission partners is priceless."

Donations of goods will be accepted from 12 noon to 2 pm on Sunday, Sept. 29; Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 from 9 am to 8 pm.; and Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 9 am until noon. Tax donation receipts will be readily available. Volunteers are welcome to help unpack, sort, and distribute merchandise.
