African Children's Choir coming to McHenry County area this weekend
The African Children's Choir is celebrating its 50th choir tour since its founding in 1984.
The new program, "Just As I Am," will be coming to Woodstock on Sunday, Sept. 22.
The choir will be perform at the 10 a.m. service at Woodstock Assembly of God, 1201 Dean St., and at 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Woodstock, 2018 N. Route 47.
The African Children's Choir melts the hearts of audiences with their charming smiles, beautiful voices and lively African songs and dances.
The program features well-loved children's songs, traditional spirituals and Gospel favorites. Concerts are free and open to all.
A free-will offering is taken at the performance to support African Children's Choir programs, such as education, care and relief and development programs.
The choir also will be performing in Crystal Lake at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at First Congregational Church, 461 Pierson St. It is hosted by the church and Encore Music Academy.
On Wednesday, Sept. 25, the choir will perform at 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1032 Maple Ave. in Downers Grove. On Friday, Sept. 27, the choir will be coming to Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, 150 Lions Drive in Elk Grove Village, at 7:30 p.m.
Music for Life (the parent organization for The African Children's Choir) works in the African countries: Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, and South Africa. It has educated over 52,000 children and impacted the lives of over 100,000 people through its relief and development programs during its history. Its purpose is to help create new leadership for tomorrow's Africa, by focusing on education.
The African Children's Choir has had the privilege to perform before presidents, heads of state and most recently Queen Elizabeth II for her diamond jubilee.
The choir has also had the honor of singing alongside artists such as Paul McCartney, Annie Lennox, Keith Urban, Mariah Carey, Michael W. Smith, and other inspirational performers.
The African Children's Choir is a nonprofit humanitarian and relief organization dedicated to helping Africa's most vulnerable children today so they can help Africa tomorrow.
There is no admission fee but donations are appreciated.
